"EVERYWHERE YOU GO, IN HARTFORD or in the communities that make up the region, you realize that this is a place of real history. It's so old, but it's also important for a lot of things that make this country today. People respect that, and they want to save what's best about what used to be. Historical homes and museums dot the area, and are too numerous to even try to mention, The result, though, is that there's a great blend of the past and the present here that keeps the area an exciting place to live."

So says Bob Steele in his introduction to Hartford: New England Renaissance. The longtime voice of WTC Radio, Steele came to Hartford from California in 1936, an in the years since, he has witnessed firsthand many of the changes in the city and its surrounds. "The changes that still strikes me," he notes, "is how much Hartford now resembles a big city, with all the big buildings and all the bustle and traffic."
