Take this book with a grain of salt

The author, an education writer for the Washington Post, had an epiphany when he recently went through the college search with his daughter. He himself matriculated initially at Occidental in California. Finding himself unhappy there, he transferred to Harvard. His son also went to Harvard. But then, unfortunately, his daughter didn't get in; she is now attending a small school in California. Matthews seems to have taken the rejection rather poorly, and this book is an effort to rationalize it!
