## Editorial Reviews

Children's Literature - Amy S. Hansen
Math is everywhere. That is the concept behind this fun, new "Real World Math" series that explores the world through a math lens. Barchers follows the preparations for a family gathering where many people will be eating. The planning and work involved in the party means there is food to be harvested and prepared. "The kids plan their games next. There are 50 apples to use for games. They decide to bob for apples first. They set aside 24 apples for bobbing. The kids use subtraction to figure out that they have 26 apples left over for the other games." A lot of good food is shown. Kids may be hungry by the time they finish this book. And they may see that subtraction and other math is used in getting ready for an everyday event. This book and the others in the series will be enjoyed in classrooms for both reading and math. Backmatter includes an activity, a glossary, an index and an answer key to the questions posed throughout the book. Reviewer: Amy S. Hansen
