Editorial Reviews

School Library Journal
Gr 5-7 Sixth-grader Erica Yurkin, a.k.a. Erk, Yuk and Gherkin, knows that she will change her name once she leaves disadvantaged Barringa East Primary School and becomes an actress. She has always felt superior to everyone in her schooluntil redistricting brings beautiful, perfect and self-assured Alison Ashley to the sixth grade. Erica hates her from the very first. A series of events makes her realize that, although Alison has material things, her mother is never there for her, while Erica has the love and devotion of her family. The two become friends. Although peppered with Australian slang, Hating Alison Ashley is a solid school story with characters and situations to which American readers will relate. Lucy Marx, Louisville Free Public Library, Ky.

A book you will never put down

Hating Alison Ashley is a book that you will never put down. It is about a girl called Erica Yurken, and how her life gets ruined when a girl called Alison Ashley shows up. Alison Ashley is perfect, her time tables are perfect, her face is perfect and her clothes are perfect. Erica is dying of jealousy because she was the best student in school until Alison Ashley showed up. I like the characters in this book, how they are made, for example Jedda, Erica¿s small sister, she is obsessed with horses even her mattress is made like a stable which she made herself. I think the author¿s writing was very interesting to read because she put so much detail in the sentences just to explain one thing. One of my favorite parts in the book is when Alison Ashley comes to Erica¿s house and that Erica says that everything in Valjoy¿s (she is Erica¿s big sister) belongs to her and it¿s just one big lie. I loved this book I could not stop reading and I think that would also happen to you. I would recommend this book to people that like to read sad, happy, serious and girl fighting books then you have come to the right book. Hope you read it, if you do hope you enjoy it.

    Hating Alison Ashley

Hating Alison Ashley is a fantastic book because the author described everything very well it has lots of funny parts in it. Also you really feel like you're Erica, the main character, who used to be the best student in the school until another girl comes and takes her place. Of course Erica is jealous because she always thought that she was the best student. Does Alison think the same? Will Erica be the best student ever again? Will they be friends? READ THE BOOK TO FIND OUT. I think that the author should have made a better ending, though I love the way how this author makes the book serious and sad. I love how Erica's little sister is horse crazy and then Alison comes to Erica's house and it is a mess. I think that anyone who likes funny, exciting and miraculous and realistic fiction books should read this book. Even if you don't, try reading this book.

WARNING: if you start reading this book you might not be able to stop!

A must read for girls that know someone that there totally jealous of.

Hating Alison Ashley is a very interesting book about a girl named Erica Yurken but EVERYONE calls her Yuk. Erica thinks she is the best student (which she is because the rest of the kids are really bad and don't listen) until the new girl Alison Ashley comes. Alison Ashley is just perfect and Yuk (Erica) is so jealous. I like how the author describes the characters, it really helps me to imagine what they would look like. I would definitely recommend this book for girls 8-up. Boys won´t like it, because it's more girly . My favorite character is Alison because she is so nice to Yuk but Yuk is so mean to her

This is a page turner kind of book!

Hating Alison Ashley is about a girl, Erica who is very jealous of this new girl, Alison Ashley who has almost everything! Alison Ashley want to be really nice to Erica but when Erica says what she really feels everything changes! Will they find friendship? Will they be pure enemies? This is a realistic fiction book because all the things that they do in that book can happen in real life! I recommend this book who likes dramatic and exiting stories!!!!!!
