Deborah AbbottAnother in the Meet the Author series, Goble's autobiography provides fascinating insight about this English transplant to Nebraska who has written and illustrated many award-winning books about Native Americans. As a child his love was the outdoors--the plants and animals he found in the quiet places he sought out for contemplation. Like many writers and illustrators, he has his office in his home, but unlike many, he has shunned modern technology and still writes with paper and pencil. In spite of the frustrations he voices of not always drawing exactly as he wants, his message to young people is upbeat: read, research, think, and persevere. The text has a slightly formal quality and shows the seriousness of a dedicated writer, as well as the quiet joy of one who loves every aspect of his work. Clear, color photos on almost every page convey the artistry of one of our most prominent children's book authors and illustrators.
