Editorial Reviews

Children's Literature - Renee Farrah Vess
What makes a haunted house? Visions, sounds, and events that took place there are investigated in this "Mysteries of Science" book. Several famous haunted houses such as the Whaley House in San Diego, California and Myrtles Plantation in Louisiana are brought up as examples. Paranormal Investigators try to provide proof of haunting using trade techniques and scientific instruments, but this book mainly discusses the concept of haunted houses. The pages are all interesting color photos, with fact bubbles, and easy-to-read text, altogether a very inviting read. The bold vocabulary words are defined at the bottom of the page in which they appear as well as in the glossary. An index, suggestions for further reading, and an invitation to explore facthound.com, which is a kid-friendly search engine connected to the publisher, round out the back of the book. A good jumping-off point into the world of haunted houses, this introduction will make the reader want to explore more books on the subject. Reviewer: Renee Farrah Vess
