Excerpt:

Daniel was looking at her intently, and she nervously picked up her tea cup and took a sip of the hot liquid. Daniel smiled slightly and did the same.

“You seem a little ill at ease, Rachel. I’m not making you nervous, am I?”

“Of course not. Why should I be nervous?”

“Oh, I don’t know,” he said, putting down his cup and taking hers out of her hand and putting it down as well. “Maybe because you’re afraid I might kiss you?”
Her heart fluttered as he laid his palm against her face and drew her toward him. He lightly brushed his lips against hers, making her insides quiver with both anxiety and excitement. It had been a very long time since she had been in this kind of situation and she didn’t know exactly what she wanted to do. Daniel’s hands dropped to her waist and her hands twined around behind his neck as his kiss deepened and his warm lips parted. She felt his tongue seeking entrance and she opened herself to his exploration. Their embrace tightened as passion flared between them. But then, something strange happened. She suddenly felt as if she wasn’t quite herself. It was almost as if she was someone else and Daniel wasn’t really Daniel. It was disorienting and she pulled away from Daniel.

“What in the world just happened?” he asked in startled voice.

“What do you mean?” asked Rachel, wondering if he had felt the same odd sensation that she had.

“I don’t know. It was weird. One minute I was enjoying kissing the sexiest woman I’ve met in a long time; the next, I felt like someone was in there with me.”

“I don’t understand,” she said evasively.

“Hey, you felt it, too, didn’t you?” he accused.

“Felt what?”

“Come on, Rachel, I know you felt something strange happening. I can tell by the look on your face that you know what I’m talking about.”
“Well, I thought I felt something. But I figured I was imagining things.”

He stood up. “This is just getting too weird. First the talk about ghosts, now this feeling of…I don’t know…possession. I think I need to go home now. Maybe when I wake up in the morning, the world will be back to normal.”

Meet the Author

Lauralynn Elliott has always loved to write, even as a child. At one point, she became discouraged, believing she wasn't good enough, and stopped writing. But a few years ago her author friend, Zoe Winters, encouraged her to start writing again. That has made all the difference.

Lauralynn is an author of paranormal and fantasy romance books published independently in primarily electronic format. You will find everything from vampires and ghosts to elves and wizards in her novels and novellas. She enjoys putting a little bit of a different twist on some of the old ideas about our favorite fictional characters.

Lauralynn lives in the southeastern United States with her husband of "several" years. She enjoys reading, playing computer games, and spending time with friends.

I loved this book. Ms. Elliott's writing just keeps getting better. "After losing her best friend in a fire, Rachel Madison rents a cabin on Misty Lake, trying to work through her guilt and sorrow. While there, she meets two men, one good looking and friendly and the other handsome, but scarred. Soon, she realizes that the peace she was trying to find here wasn't to be, as supernatural events begin to take place." Rachel has lost touch with her painting over the years. When she goes to Misty Lake to try and deal with the loss of her friend she discovers her long lost love of painting. Little does she know that her painting continues a mysterious chain of events that have been developing at the lake. She and the two men she develops a close friendship with (or perhaps more) must discover what is going on before otherworldly events conspire to tear them apart. Even as a couple of ghosts try to pull them together in a few interesting and uncomfortable ways.

I was a little skeptical at first but this is a good story that gets better with each page you read! It wasnt as long as it said as each page turned was two and three pages. I think it was a good story for the money.

A Tragedy A Break Away A Haunted Lake . . Rachel Madison feels the time has come to retreat to the lake cabin.  The vacation her best friend wanted them both to go to before a fire that took Mary Beth's life.Although Rachel feels Mary Beths' encouragement for her to paint again, the scarred cabin caretaker is proving to be a distraction to paint landscapes.   His scratched voice warning for her to go back to the city is proving to be too much of an inspiration on the canvases that she long ago forgot. Until she starts sketching seascapes and people she has never seen.  And who are not there.Daniel Cho is holidaying at the lake again and is very much enjoying the blushes on Rachel's cheeks way too much.  He is intrigued by her, wants to protect her.  But is it just friendship he is willing to offer, or accept from Rachel?  And why does he always have a witty remark at hand to everything weird that Rachel says happened her?John Cameron tries to warn the two people who rented his lake-side cabins.   Usually, his scarred face and scratchy voice puts people off . . .. .This time, it seems, the Lake itself is calling to them.   Who will save the beautiful artist or handsome architect from what calls beneath the lake? And more importantly, who knows what lies there?Haunted Lake, to me, screamed "Lauralynn Elliott".  She has a knack of writing horror that takes the reader back to 'pre-CGI' days.   A lake, a mist, a ghost story AND a sound in the night . . . That will always give me goosebumps!!!  Let's face it people, we all know that technology makes ghosts in Hollywood. But in the wee small hours when the real ghosts are up, our technology cannot make us feel as safe as the morning sun!! And this is what Lauralynn Elliiott books convey!    Creepy with an extra portion of "I'm glad I have my duvet to protect me!!

This was a well-written mysterious story about love lost and love gained. I saw vast improvement from the author from the first book she ever published and enjoyed it very much. It had me in tears from the emotion that poured from the pages. Emotion is this author’s strongest quality in her writing. She conveys emotion so clearly and realistically that it is almost impossible to not act like an Empath and fell the emotions at the same time as the characters. Her writing, like a lot of great writers, makes you feel like you ARE the characters, but at the same time aren’t. I don’t know if that makes sense, but it does. This book was gorgeous and is definitely the kind of story that is a classic, but that also never loses it’s unique qualities.

As I was reading Haunted Lake, I could envision it being a movie on the Lifetime channel. You will find yourself immersed in this story as if you are standing there on the shore of the lake watching the mist swirl around the characters and feeling their emotions as the ghosts begin to take over. There were definitely a few scenes that surprised me (including ones that got a little steamy). This is a great romance/ghost story with a dark fairy tale ending.
