Editorial Reviews

Children's Literature - Melissa Rife
When the little boy in this book loses his pet dinosaur, he spends the whole book asking around town, trying to find out what happened to him. He asks his mother, the police, a professor, a fisherman, and even takes a visit to the zoo and natural history museum. All seem to think that dinosaurs are nowhere to be found anymore, and finally the little boy enlists the help of the reader to find his dinosaur, which has been trailing him the entire book. Presented through rhyming couplets, the book features colorful, playful illustrations and is reminiscent of some of the best Dr. Suess books, which is perhaps why it bears the Cat in the Hat "Beginner Books" logo in the corner. Beyond just the fun rhymes, there is actual information that could bring teachable moments to the reader, especially when he visits the zoo. There he meets animals from Baden-Baden, Germany and Culloden, as well as orangutans and kinkajous. Overall, this book is fun for reading to little children and fun for children who are just learning to read. I would highly recommend it! Reviewer: Melissa Rife

PreS-Gr 2—This entertaining Seuss-style story will have dinosaur enthusiasts clamoring for more. Charming cartoon illustrations provide an amusing complement to the rhyming text. A boy looks around his home and travels around his community in search of his large, green "he likes to roar" dinosaur. The frontispiece shows a silhouette of the boy with the dinosaur tiptoeing behind him; it will get readers hooked from the start. Even the title page contributes to the story. A great hide-and-seek adventure for beginning readers.—Melissa Smith, Green Valley Library, Henderson, NV
