Reading 'The Yellow Wallpaper' after being diagnosed with depression myself, was an eye-opening experience. It is so scary to realize how misunderstood and mistreated depression was in the past! The treatment turned out to be the worst thing you could possibly do to somebody who is suffering from depression! To think that that is how depression was treated during the times that this book was written is frightening, to say the very least. Reading this book added a whole other dimension to my understanding of the condition of women during that time in American culture. I highly recommend it to anybody interested in the history of women in the American culture. Was this review helpful? Yes NoThank you for your feedback.
