Overview

HBC, the trio of guitarist Scott Henderson, bassist Jeff Berlin, and drummer Dennis Chambers, is a jazz fusion supergroup by anyone's standards, and they've been touring together for a while now, so although this is the group's debut album, it's still the work of a veteran band whose members are well aware of what they do, which in this case means powerful, driving versions of compositions by Wayne Shorter ("Footprints," "Mysterious Traveller," "Sightseeing"), Joe Zawinul ("D Flat Waltz," "The Orphan"), Billy Cobham ("Stratus"), and Herbie Hancock ("Actual Proof"), along with a pair of pieces by Henderson and Berlin. It's all solid, thick, joyously rhythmic, and fun. ~ Steve Leggett
