Overview

This reference edition of the HCSB has been optimized for easy reading on digital devices. It includes more than 35,000 links to textual notes, alternate readings, explanatory notes, cross references, and Old Testament citations in the New Testament. The table of contents is organized by headings within each chapter and the corresponding verse numbers, and the ebook file has been specifically formatted to be fast and easy to use.
The HCSB was developed by 100 scholars and English stylists from 17 denominations, who prayerfully translated what is one of the most significant Bible translations available today. The HCSB reflects linguistic advances in vocabulary, grammar, punctuation and formatting while it retains meaningful theological terms. In the HCSB you'll find God's personal name (Yahweh), the use of "Messiah" in the New Testament, and the use of "slave" in the New Testament, just to name a few examples. Also, you'll notice the contemporary speech patterns in the HCSB mean that words like "behold" and "shall" are not used. Instead, words or phrases that are common today can be found in their place.
The HCSB employs a first-of-its kind translation philosophy known as Optimal Equivalence, which seeks to achieve an optimal balance of literary precision and emotive clarity through a comprehensive analysis of the text at every level. This process assures maximum transfer of both words and thoughts contained in the original.

Still lookiing for a Bible to use on my Nook. This one, like others, is almost impossible when it comes to looking up references. You can go to the book of the Bible (going through the "Go To", then "Chapter") but if the chapter is toward the end of the book, you have to scroll through each chapter to get to it! Then to the verse! Try that for Psalm 139. If you try to use the "Find" to put the reference in, many times it comes up "Not Found." I like this translation, but would not recommend it for use on a Nook. Any suggestions?

The cross reference links have an option to allow you to jump back to the verse you are reading, but the option is available for only 5 seconds. After that, it disappears and you need to return to the table of contents to go back to your chapter. It's not enough time to read and reflect. Sometimes it's not enough time to find it in the list of cross reference links. Also, the pages don't indicate what book or chapter your in. You need to turn back to the first page of the chapter to confirm your location. I don't think the price justifies the poor application of reference links.
