Overview

America's favorite sport has a serious problem. Many of the NFL's top players including Troy Aikman, Steve Young, Merril Hoge, Ted Johnson, Al Toon, and Wayne Chrebet- have had their careers ended by head injuries. But few realize that most NFL players are suffering multiple concussions during their career, and shocking new studies reveal that these players suffer higher rates of depression, cognitive disorders, and Alzheimer's disease. But the true concussion crisis is in youth sports, where children die every year and many more are impaired for life. A former Harvard football player, WWE wrestler, and victim of a career-ending head injury, Christopher Nowinski exposes how nearly every child playing football is affected. He shows parents, players, and coaches what a concussion is, how to identify its symptoms, and when it is safe to return to the field. Most important, he shows how the game should be changed before anyone else's life is altered forever.

    Football players read this book

If you play football, you need to read this book. It tells you the signs and dangers of concussions. All parents allowing their children to play football should read this book in order to know what danger they are placing their children. I never knew those football hits caused permanent brain damage. This book also tells you how those hits cause demensia and alhiemerze disease in later life. This book tells you what the NFL and youth football leages don't want you to know: Hits to the head sustained during the play of football can cause brain damage, memory loss, depression, and sometimes suicide do to brain damage. Thank You Mr. Nowinski for writing such an informative book.

    A reviewer

This book tells you about the dangers of concussions in football. It tells you the symptoms of a concussion and treatment, which may save your life. I played football in the seventies and eighties and never realized how much danger I was putting myself into, as most football players don't, until I read this book. A lot of parents need to know the danger they are putting their children in by allowing them to play football, which can led to temporary or permanent brain injury. This book tells how many children are being killed by brain injuries in football and how repeated concussions can lead to permanet brain injuries such as Alzheimer's disease in later life. This book is written eloquently and is by far the most informative book that I have ever read about any subject. Chris Nowinski has done his research well. He also has interviewed many former NFL players who had to retire from the game due to brain injuries. He has also interviewed wives of former players, because their husbands brains are too scrambled from playing football to even do an interview--NFL Hall of Famer John Macky for instance. He has also interviewed many doctors who are experts in neurological sports injuries--Dr. Robert C. Cantu for instance.
