Even if you aren't into gospel music at all, do yourself a favor and check out the Chuck Wagon Gang. This CD contains mostly cuts by the "original" group, who recorded from 1936-1950, with a few cuts from the late 1950s. With their tight, 4-part, family harmony and simple yet accomplished guitar accompaniment, the original Chuck Wagon Gang truly is one of the most unique American recording groups, on par with (and I think better than) the Carter Family and any number of other groups from the period. The one "oddball" track, Stephen Foster's song "Massa's in the Cold Ground," may seem offensive by today's standards, but this 1936 recording is, like the rest of the disc, an important part of America's musical heritage.
