Meet the Author

Dr. Michael A. Schmidt is the author of Beyond Antibiotics, Brain-Building Nutrition, Childhood Ear Infections, and Tired of Being Tired.  He did his Ph.D. research in molecular medicine and biochemistry within the Life Sciences Division at NASA Ames Research Center, with studies in neuroscience and metabolomics at Lancaster University.  He teaches in the Metabolomics Training Program at the University of Colorado, and he works closely with the human disease modeling laboratory (3-D tissue analogues group) and with the human space flight initiative of the suborbital research group at NASA.  He has applied his work in functional genomics and metabolomics to human disease states, as well as to methods to enhance human performance.  Dr. Schmidt co-founded Sovaris Aerospace, which addresses problems of complexity in space biomedicine, along with Cyvia Neurosystems, which develops EEG-based neurophysiology tools.  He is a gifted communicator, who has spent his career translating complex topics in science and medicine to general audiences.

    This Book Can Save Your Child From Surgery

    I purchased this book just before my daughter was scheduled to have tubes placed in her ears. For 10 months she suffered from chronic ear infections. She had been on every type of antibiotic and preventative drug that was available on the market and nothing seemed to help (and we all know how those drugs can reek havoc on the digestive system). I asked her doctors if there were any natural alternatives to help her and they told me no, only drugs and surgery. So, once her surgery was scheduled, I decided to do some research. This is how I came across Dr. Schmidts book, and what a fantasitc book it is! I discovered all the reasons behind my daughters' illness and was able to help her heal completely without surgery or further drug intervention (and yes, her doctors were very upset that I went this route, they even called me irresponsible). This book helped me take back my power and not feel so helpless as a parent watching their child suffer. This book is by far the best book that you can get for alternative treatment and prevention for ear infections! Thank you Dr. Schmidt!

    The best book about OM

    This book is *far and away* the best book for explaining ear infections and inflammation (OM) and for strategies to combat and prevent it. Dr. Schmidt thoroughy researches and references his work, and gives practical advice. Not only laypeople but any doctor that treats children can benefit from this book. If OM is a concern for you, get this book! (Did I mention that I like this book?)
