Moreover, he challenges us to acknowledge our spiritual night blindness and embrace the sacredness of night.

A Sleep Expert's Approach to Sleep & Dreams

Ever since I can remember, dreams have been a guiding force in my life. I actually look forward to sleeping for both the peaceful replenishing aspects as well as the varied dream adventures that await me. Upon awakening, I take a few moments to reflect over them, to seal the memories and store them for a time when they invariably take on notable significance and meaning. Therefore, it was with great interest I read 'Healing Night: the Science and Spirit of Sleeping, Dreaming, and Awakening', an extraordinary book that delves into the recesses of one of the most primitive and private aspects of our psyche - the dream-state and the wondrous time both leading up to and following it. Dr. Naiman adeptly combines his background in psychology, science and spirituality by presenting elements of sleep and dreams in a concise, engaging manner. Additionally, given the impact of sleep deprivation on the quality of our lives and health, as well as the growing over-reliance on artificial sleeping aids to achieve this, the practical guidelines Dr. Naiman offers for attaining deep rest offer safer, more effective long-term alternatives for this alarming trend. This book has reinforced what I've felt all along - the benefits of true, restful, healing sleep in restoring tranquility and balance to mind and body. For those who feel such capability eludes them, 'Healing Night' offers a godsend of useful, practical principles that can bring about profound and welcome lifestyle improvement.

I decided to buy this book because I skimmed through & thoug

I decided to buy this book because I skimmed through & thought this book will teach me more than I will ever learn from the 2 sleep doctors I have seen, as well as my sleep lab results combined.  I bought the book with these high expectations.  My expectations were surpassed.  This book is fantastic.  I recommend it to anyone who considers going to bed & getting out of bed to be a struggle.

    Healing Night, Healthy Spirits

Reading ¿Healing Night¿ was a blessed experience. Dr. Naiman's artful and sentimental writing style beguiles readers while they absorb vast amounts of technical science and advanced spirituality vital to their well-being. Dr. Naiman is conversational, but scholarly. Poetic¿yet prosaic. His strong, human, caring, and qualified voice effectively ushers readers into the life-threatening plight of our sleepless and dreamless world. Throughout 'Healing Night', Dr. Naiman gently weaves his ever important message of developing and maintaining healthy sleeping, dreaming, and waking patterns with personalized anecdotal threads. The results are a seemingly effortless and beautiful tapestry of the psychology, physiology, and spirituality necessary for readers to understand and overcome our cultural and sociological addiction to artificial light, sleeping pills and waking 'aids'. 'Healing Night' is a rare, masterful recipe for nursing our parched, exhausted, ignored, and overstimulated souls back to health. If you are serious about improving your relationship with sleep...or with yourself, 'Healing Night' is the most comprehensive medical and spiritual manual that I have ever come across.
