Purpose: It is written to meet the needs of a variety of healthcare professionals, all of whom are engaged in many facets of education, whether educating clients, colleagues, or students. With a focus suitable for multiple disciplines, the book is a useful reference for understanding the many principles of teaching and learning and the application to daily practice.
Audience: The audience is professionals from multiple disciplines responsible for educating others on a daily basis. The information is presented in such a way that the principles and strategies are applicable to the practices of varied professionals. The principle author has been a nursing educator for more than 30 years and has received numerous awards related to teaching. The other authors are equally qualified and the contributors represent diverse experiential backgrounds.
Features: Chapters appear here that are not always found in education books, including those on ethical, legal, and economic foundations of education, literacy in adult clients, and educating learners with disabilities. One of the strengths is the summary of the current state of evidence in each chapter. The chapter on technology in education is good start to capturing current evidence in this area and providing recommendations for use of technology in educating clients, staff, and students. While it does not provide an in-depth how-to guide, the overview is useful.
Assessment: I have reviewed or used other books geared to education in specific disciplines. The strength of this one lies in its multidisciplinary nature, which unites the healthcare team in a common focus on education.
