    A great resource to have on hand

    I have LOVED this book. I used itoften during my pregnancy. It is such a great reference book and I'm always using it to to find what benefits certain foods have. I was relieved to see that it hasn't been discontinued because I plan to order some for gifts.

    Great Quick Answer Guide!

    I have had this book for a year now, and have given 6 copies as gifts. Any time the subject of food and nutrition comes up, I find myself quoting this book! For instance, did you know that strawberries contain modest amounts of iron? And they have high vitamin C content that makes sure you absorb the iron, thus helping to prevent anemia and fatigue. AND they help eliminate joint-irritating uric acid from the body, which then helps relieve arthritis pain. AND they have pectin which lowers cholesterol. AND they have antioxidant properties to help fight cancer. The Healthy Food Directory contains succinct descriptions of the good or bad properties of most (but not all) fruits, vegetables, meats, herbs, etc. And is indexed in a way that allows you to look up either the food, the health issue (insomnia, arthritis, respiratory system), or the vitamins/minerals of interest to you. It often includes the best way to prepare the foods for maximum health benefit. For folks like me, who are always on the run, this is a great quick reference to help you take better care of yourself and your family by eating better.
