Editorial Reviews

Doody's Review Service
Reviewer: Jose C Mendez, MD (Loyola University Stritch School of Medicine)
Description: This second edition is an elegant compilation of illustrations, graphs, and photographs covering all fundamental aspects of normal cardiac physiology as well as the pathophysiology and management of heart failure.
Purpose: The editors' objective is to present a concise overview of all relevant aspects of heart failure.
Audience: The intended audience is cardiovascular specialists, clinicians, investigators, and particularly medical school faculty.
Features: This atlas consists of twelve richly illustrated chapters and covers all aspects of heart failure, including exciting areas of active clinical and bench research such as neuro-hormonal modulation, cardiac remodeling, and cellular and molecular biology. The chapter dedicated to the etiological basis of congestive heart failure is a particularly fine collection of photographs of gross pathological specimens and corresponding histology. Advanced therapies for heart failure such as mechanical assist devices and cardiac transplantation are also briefly reviewed.
Assessment: This is a richly illustrated and timely reference resource.
