When Kate Watts abandoned her law career to open a food pantry in Northeast Minneapolis, she never dreamed it would be this difficult. Facing the heartbreaking prospect of turning hungry people away, she is grateful for the anonymous donations that begin appearing at the end of each month. Determined to identify and thank her secret benefactor, she launches a plan and catches Ian --a charismatic hacker with a Robin Hood complex--in the act.
Ian intrigues Kate in a way no man ever has. But after learning he's snooped around on her personal computer, she demands retribution. Impressed with her tolerance and captivated by her spirit, he complies and begins to slowly charm his way past her defenses. Time spent with Ian is never boring, and Kate soon finds herself falling for the mysterious hacker.
But Ian has enemies and they're growing restless. In the hacking world, exploiting a target's weakness is paramount, and no price is too high to stop an attack. And when Kate learns exactly how much Ian has paid, she'll discover just how strong her love is for the man who has hacked his way into her heart.

Well written but what a boring book! I kept reading thinking that things would surely pick up! Loved On The Island, so had high hopes for this book. This was the story of two nice people who meet, fall in love and find a happily ever after. The problem was that there was nothing really exciting about the characters or the story. I never cared about Kate - she was a well educated 20-something, living in the city with friends, good looks, good job and a supportive family. Ian was a good looking computer wizard. A point of what seemed to be excitement in the story involved fast typing. Kate had never seen anyone type so fast. Wow. And the dialog! I had to skip along through parts as I was starting to hate Kate and Ian for being so BORING! Penny Reid has some great stories about smart girls. She's even written an exciting romance involving a hacker!
It was just okay for me. Didn't care for the characters and couldn't really form a connection with either of them. Not crazy about the mundane storyline and Kate got on my nerves. Definately not "On the Island!" I loved that book. Won 't be reading book #2. Could care less what happens in there future. Lol!!!!!
I can not believe I just discovered this book! It totally left me with a book hangover! I could not put it down (which I regretted the next morning on just a few hrs of sleep haha). I absolutely loved the witty banter between the 2 main characters Kate and Ian. This book had me feeling all of the emotions possible. I laughed out loud, got irritated, heart broken and happy again. I highly recommend this. I am currently off to read the 2nd book White-Hot Hack.
I am not a tech savvy person, so I was a bit leery of the premise of this book. That being said, I LOVED THIS BOOK! The dialogue and overall depth between Ian and Kate had me laughing out loud, sighing, and even moved to tears. I am buying White Hot Hack as soon as I finish this review, and will be looking for more books by Ms. Gravis Graves.
Loved Ian and Kate and their story. And the little twist....OMG.....I though my heart was broken. Thank God it was put back together.
Loved this book! Cannot wait to read the adventures of Kate and Ian in Washington DC. Love all of Tracey Garvis Graves books especially On the Island.
“Once upon a time there was a hacker.” And he stole my heart! When I went to bed last night after finishing Heart-Shaped Hack I didn’t think I could love this book any more than I already did. I was SO wrong! As soon as my eyes opened this morning, I wanted to be back in Ian and Kate’s world and stay there all day long. After reading a book this amazing, reality can seem really boring!! #majorbookhangover “People wouldn’t sleep as well at night if they knew what hackers were capable of.” “Then I guess I’ll sleep extra soundly when the best hacker of them all is in my bed.” I’m going to admit that for the first five chapters, I made so many notes about how Ian would just creep me out. When Kate says that he has absolutely NO boundaries, she hit the nail on the head. The man seriously did not know what that word meant!! But as the book goes on, that cocky, intrusive, and almost always wildly inappropriate man started showing how caring, tender, and sweet he really was. Slowly, but completely, he stole my heart and I don’t want it back. By the end of the book, Ian had earned himself a forever home on my list of book boyfriends!! “Maybe she didn’t know how it would feel to be loved by Ian, but she knew how it would feel to love him because that night, in his bed after hearing his story, Kate’s heart felt like it would burst and she fell hard” Kate is my new hero. Target shopper (that right there would cinch her as my favorite!), Netflix watcher, the humble owner of an amazing amount of tolerance, kindness, and compassion, this woman has it all. She opens her heart to Ian KNOWING that there’s a huge chance it’s going to get broken, and wow, does it ever, but she stays this amazingly kind, open person. When her heart broke, mine shattered right along with her. She is that kind of character that you instantly connect with, and want to be your best friend. “You’re going to kill me, Ian. And I mean that in the most wonderfully satisfying way.” Heart-Shaped Hack is a MUST read, more than 5 star read. If you love wit and banter in a book, then grab this one ASAP!. The degree of wit, and how skillfully the author pulls off blending it with the serious, more heart wrenching moments is simply stunning. This is the first book that I have read by this author, but I promise you it won’t be the last. The only problem I have with how well this was written is now every I see a Jumbotron, or drive past one of those electric highway signs, I’m going to be wondering were my hacker is!! “Always choose love. Always choose the adventure. You’ll never regret it.”
Recommended by Anesta's BookBlog, my 'go-to' ALWAYS for choosing my next favorite book. Right again!!! This book was awesome. I loved the quick-witted, sexy and very funny dialog between the characters. Another new favorite!!!
Funny, engaging. It's a full story with no cliff hanger, but a nw chapter of their lives will be covered in book 2. I will definitely buy it. I read at least two books a week and this will def be a favorite. Buy it, you won't regret it
