AUTHOR Q&A PART 1 (MAY CONTAIN MINOR SPOILERS)

Is this book appropriate for all ages?

No. The story is not appropriate for children. It is written for adults, young adults, and mature teens.

How is the novel structured? What is the point of view? What kind of ending does it have?

The book has over 60,000 words. Each chapter is told from the perspective of a main character. The point of view is first person (as if inside the character’s head) and in present tense (as it is happening). The chapters are relatively short and the book moves quickly. There is no big cliffhanger at the end, but there are some remaining plot threads that lead into the second book. This novel does NOT have a sad, disappointing, or frustrating ending.

What genre is this?

It is often described as a paranormal suspense thriller, though some prefer to call it supernatural suspense, paranormal romance, paranormal urban fantasy, or even young adult. The Thornborn Saga as a whole is a paranormal series that can be seen as a vampire romance series. It has much of what you would find in vampire suspense or a vampire thriller, but there are also elements of werewolf romance. It is important to note that the novel is full of action and scares, and the romance is handled in a way that will appeal to both male and female readers.

What types of creatures are in the novel?

Quite a number: vampires, werewolves, wearbears, ghosts, witches, and fae (fairies, fey, fay, faeries). All of them are portrayed in new and unique ways. For example, these are contemporary werewolves or shifters who channel animal spirits. The fae are depicted as elusive creatures of the past and do not play as prominent a role as seen in some faery books. The witch in this novel does not play as big of a role as in many witch books, but she will become more important as the series progresses.

Now to say I like vampire stories would be an understatement. I have loved anything to do with vampires and the supernatural since I was young. This book was a wonderful mix of love and intrigue. It was a wonderful read, that once it starts doesn't let you go easily. There are times when I could tell something big was coming up, or that something was wrong. Well, when the book ends it gives you those answers. To read the rest of my review please go here https://journeyingwithceltic.wordpress.com/heartblaze-1-vampire-soul-by-shay-roberts/

GoodReads, Amazon and Barnes and Noble posted [Disclosure of Material Connection: I received this book from the author. I was not required to write a positive review. The opinions I have expressed are my own. Receiving a complimentary copy in no way reflected my review of this book. I am disclosing this in accordance with the Federal Trade Commission’s 16 CFR, Part 255 : “Guides Concerning the Use of Endorsements and Testimonials in Advertising.”] "What’s happening to my life? A week ago I was living in a normal world, surrounded by my books. Now I’ve fallen down some rabbit hole filled with dangerous supernatural creatures." Emma Rue, student. She's worked hard to put her horrendous childhood in the rear view mirror. She wants to teach history because it is the one thing she loves. And, in her first class she reacts before thinking and attacks the teacher.... That ends school real fast and court order psychiatry sends her to a mad scientest wanna be who makes her take a pill to open her mind to her past lives? This rabbit hole sends her on a search that takes her deep into the history of Newport Rhode Island, and her own past lives and those surrounding her. Will she actually find the life she'd regressed to? And when she does, what might happen next? As a born and bred Rhode Islander, I was more than curious about this series. As much as I wanted to like it: history, romance, Newport, revenge, what wasn't there to like. However, it felt like it didn't quite fit. . Information overload makes it hard to follow, with a few characters that really weren't needed. The story doesn't flow well until almost the end and its open ended conclusion leaves you wondering if it was even worth the journey. 21/2 stars
