Editorial Reviews

From the Publisher
"Eloquent . . . rich in symbolism."—The Horn Book
Children's Literature
Book Two of the prolific Yolen's fantasy series, "Pit Dragon Trilogy," finds the hero Jakkin—now seventeen—on top of his small world. He has achieved master status, has a winning pit dragon—his beloved Heart's Blood—and dragonlings on the way. Only the missing Akki could complete his happiness. Meanwhile, it seems that revolution is brewing on the convict planet of Austar IV, and Akki is smack in the middle of it. Drawn against his will into the politics of the time, Jakkin must learn to judge humans as well as dragons. His head bursting with intrigues on top of dragon messages, Jakkin is shoved into his much-desired manhood before he is ready for the consequences. After a slow start, the adventure works up to an action-packed ending. 2004 (orig. 1984), Magic Carpet/Harcourt, Ages 12 up.

    amazing

this trilogy is the best written trilogy on dragons i have ever read.the fact that she included politics and and a sense of law made the stories and the idea of dragons more believeable and real. i wish this trilogy never ended and love reading them over and over again.

    Simply amazing and engrossing!

Jane Yolen has hit a home run with her Pit Dragon Series. Once you read the first, the second and third can't be put down. I read them in 7th grade, and again this week(I'm now 25) and still can't get enough.

    It Sucks

The writing is terrible, the story uninteresting, the world unbelieveable and confusing, and the characters unrealistic. Need I say more? This book will bore you to death, that is if you keep reading it after you see it REALLY SUCKS!!!

    Jason Fantasy Lover

Jane Yolen has written a great book. I just love how the dragons comunicate using colored thoughts. I also like how she uses the womb to give jakkin and akki new life.

YOU HAVE TO READ THIS BOOK!!!!

This book is definetely more sci-fi then the last book, which was more of a fantasy book, but its still really really good. The third book definetly looks promising... especially the end because it get's way 'out-there'...

    Excellent book for ages 10+

Jane Yolen has done it again. She has produced a spectacular novel that furthers the Dragon Pit Trilogy. She has taken the very roots of dragon lore itself and used them in a most imaginative way that is a great story for anyone. The Book itself is about the continuation of Jakkin's adventures in which he encounters his long lost friend and takes on a daring quest that could save Austar IV itself. I recommend this book to ages 10+.
