Meet the Author

Jerry Ravino, author of ELITE: USMC First Reconnaissance Company of the Korean War, 1950-1953, served in the Flame Platoon, First Tank Battalion, First Marine Division as a flame tank commander. He was awarded the Purple Heart and is a member of the Korean War Project, the Disabled American Veterans, the Marine Corps Tankers Association, and an Associate Member of the Vietnam Tankers Association. He retired from Pfizer Chemical Production Facility and resides with his family in Florida.

During his three-year enlistment in the United States Marine Corps, Jack Carty spent a year with the Flame Platoon, Headquarters Company, First Tank Battalion, First Marine Division, in the Land of the Morning Calm. He spent his entire professional career with the Courier-Post in New Jersey and received several awards for his work before retiring as an editor in 1990. He continued to write his sports column, “Jackstraws,” for the paper until 2006. He and his wife Pat reside in Southern New Jersey.
