Editorial Reviews

Diane Davis White
Candace Gold spins an exciting tale of one woman's struggle for equality in what has traditionally been a man's world--firefighting. Is there romance? Oh yeah! Marcie O'Dwyer, though more concerned with career than passion, finds herself embroiled in a big time romance with the hunky, but mysterious, Ray Smith--who may or may not be a chauvinist.

Fast paced, riveting and exciting are only a few of the words that express this thriller. Combine a feisty, fearless female with a dozen or mo

Ray smith had been transferred to The firehouse from downtown, Marcie O'Dwyer was mopping the floor when the newcomer entered she asked him who he was and he said that she was pretty nosy for the cleaning lady, she informed him that she was a firefighter, Ray Smith laughed but you are a woman. That was the beginning of their relationship. Marcie disliked Ray Smith on sight for his chauvinist comments she had worked very hard to get respect in the service, and here was this guy trying to belittle

I am not typically a harsh reviewer.  In fact, I usually give an author the benefit of the doubt even if I don't particularly like a story because
not every story can appeal to everyone.  That being said, this story line was intriguing and did appeal to me, but there was so much
superfluous crap in the book it was hard to read!  There is a fine line between drawing a reader into the book by describing the scene
and inundating them with information not pertinent to the story.  Candace Gold not only crossed that line, but she also backed up.
crossed it again and then buried it with a backhoe!  There were pages upon pages of description that made reading tedious and
completely derailed the story.  I literally started skipping entire pages just to get to the story.

My determination was not rewarded because in this authors attempt to keep it unpredictable she made it cliche' and just as monotonous
as the descriptions!  I kept thinking it would get better and was actually shocked when she "borrowed" an entire scene from the movie
BACKDRAFT!  Not only did she "borrow" the scene, but she also borrowed the dialogue.  I know because it is one of my husband's
favorite movies and I've seen it many many times.  Shame on you Candace Gold!!!!

As if all of that wasn't bad enough, I kept thinking the story would end, but NO!  She just kept adding more junk to the end.  I HATED this
book because it was so poorly written.  It really is a shame because it would have been a good story in the hands of a more talented
writer.  Very disappointed and a complete waste of money and time.  Save your money and buy something else!

Once I started reading I could not put it down because I was immediately drawn into the lives of the hero and heroine and the romance and mystery they become involved in.
