¿The Nancy Drew of Christian Fiction¿

Heather is a socialite unlike most. She has a black belt in karate. She and her group of friends could not care less about their social status or endless supply of money. However, they do use their contacts to solve local mysteries. They are the secret detectives known as ¿The Rose¿. Heather and her friends dress up as different types of people to gather information. However, their cover is almost blown by Heather¿s new interest, Duke. Duke is not rich or well-known. Matter of fact, he is trying his best to get out of the social section of the newspaper he writes for. What he really wants to do is uncover the identity of The Rose. Then, The Rose singles him out as their go-to journalist. Heather has a mother that is unbearable. Her rudeness is tangible. She is an embarrassment to Heather, who still lives in her section of the family castle. Heather is the Nancy Drew of Christian Fiction. This book was a blast to read. I look forward to reading the other books in The Debutantes series.

    Loved this cozy!

Heather was a fun read with enough drama and romantic tension to tickle my fancy. Like a cozy mystery, but with an extra helping of humor and romance. I normally don't like cozy's that much, but this story had enough hilarious moments and delightful scenes between Duke and Heather that it kept me reading to the end. I literally couldn't put it down. Heather's rich girlfriends were hilarious and made for great secondary characters. This was a really fun story, like a beach read, but with a little more depth to the characterization. And I wanted Duke and Heather to make it in their budding relationship the worst way. Heather reminded me of Cameron Diaz in the modern version of the Charlie's Angels entourage when she sleuthed around with her friends. I held my breath on more than one occasion expecting those gals to get caught in the act of snooping. And Duke was a charming and delectable hero. That scene with Heather and Duke romping on the beach was... oy! What an awesome and memorable love scene. Wonderfully done! I don't want to spoil the fun twists and turns, but I guarantee that this read will be enjoyable for mystery and romance readers alike. I was still smiling after I finished the last page.

    Indepedent Women Part 1

The three girls reminded me of Charlie's Angels. Crime fighting girls who keep their identities secret from boyfriends and other family members. I love reading stories about women who can kick butt, are smart, and be pretty all at the same time. Their adventures were exciting, suspenseful and funny. I'm glad to read that not all rich people are stuck up snobs (although some people could interpret what they do as rich girls being bored). I liked Duke's character, and I loved reading about him bringing Heather back to visit his family. The chemistry between the two was very realistic and one of the most romantic couples I've ever read in Christian fiction. You could really feel the sparks between them especially during that beach scene! There was only thing that really irked me while reading this book. While Heather can completely defend herself and fight better than most men could, she seemed to want to portray herself as helpless and in need of a man to protect her. I understand her reasoning that some men might be scared off because of a women being stronger than them but seriously, that is so old fashioned. It's one thing not to tell Duke about being 'The Rose' and the things she and the other girls did. But it's another thing completely to act like a needless princess waiting for her hero to rescue her. I mean seriously, if a guy dumps you because you know karate and can defend yourself, he's not good for you anyways! Other than this, I really enjoyed reading this book. It's a great mix of romance and adventure and I am looking forward to reading the next book in the series.
