This novel set in the 1820s takes Sam Morgan, a young mountain man, to California to rescue his daughter, his brother-in-law, a Crow Indian, and the Crow's wife. Though the historical picture of time and place is superb, it's the high drama and exciting adventure that make the book extraordinary. Readers will also be fascinated by the insights into racial issues and slavery in California and New Mexico. Was this review helpful? Yes NoThank you for your feedback.
