Baker Corinna Chapman is happy with her life. Jason, the former addict she rescued from her alleyway, , is shaping into a good apprentice. And her beautiful Israeli lover, Daniel, though away for the last couple of weeks, is as enchanting as ever.

Corinna has no intention of doing any more investigative work. At least until she bites into what should have been a lovely violet-cream gourmet chocolate and instead finds a chili-filled catastrophe.

Corinna doesnt want to see Juliet and Vivienne Lefebvres' chocolate shop, Heavenly Pleasures, shut down. And quite frankly, it is just a crime to ruin those gorgeous chocolate confections. Is this tampering part of an elaborate and horrible joke, or is it a warning that worse may yet happen?

In the meantime, Daniel has returned bruised and battered from an encounter with a so-called messiah. Is the messiah somehow involved in this chocolate crime? And just who is the mysterious man who has moved into the upper apartment?

Heavenly Pleasures is the second installment in Kerry Greenwoods Corinna Chapman series.

Publishers Weekly

Lose all thought of New Year's diets, you who enter Australian author Greenwood's delectable second Corinna Chapman cozy (after 2007's Earthly Delights). Corinna, formerly an XL-sized accountant in power suit and kitten heels, runs a downtown Melbourne artisan bakery, attached to a tantalizing Roman-themed apartment building housing a rich assortment of eccentrics. These include leather queen Mistress Dread; Corinna's omnivorous reforming junkie apprentice, Jason; Meroe, a Wiccan witch; Corinna's private zooful of arrogant cats; and Daniel, her gorgeous trout-pool-eyed ex-Israeli soldier lover, who providentially for Corinna adores 'em supersized-and he cooks, too. When someone starts injecting a neighboring shop's lavishly described Belgian chocolates with chili sauce, Corinna leaves kneading for detecting, while Daniel struggles to unmask a slithering, slavering self-proclaimed boy messiah. Greenwood's yeasty soufflé of unlikely but satisfying elements quickly thickens over the top, but who cares-it all just leads to Corinna's recipe for Chocolate Orgasm Muffins. (June)

Kirkus Reviews
What do a mysterious new tenant in a Roman-style Melbourne apartment house and a case of sabotaged chocolates have in common?Corinna Chapman has given up her high-pressure job to open Earthy Delights, a bakery where she labors each morning to turn out delicious treats and hearty breads. Along the way she's acquired a teenaged helper in Jason, a recovering heroin addict whose muffins are to die for, and a friend and lover in Daniel Cohen, a handsome Israeli investigator who wants to save the world one person at a time. The newest tenants of her unique apartment house are a lady of taste and style and an ultra-private man Corinna suspects is of interest to the police. Suddenly two sisters who run a nearby chocolate shop beg Daniel for help finding the person who is sneaking chili sauce into their chocolates in an attempt to ruin their reputation. Adding to the confusion are a nasty messiah-type nut case; a bomb threat; a beating; and a girl who has gone missing from her job at the chocolate shop. Corinna's old contacts in the financial world, Daniel's in the criminal world and Corinna's helpful fellow tenants all come up with clues that help bring the case to a satisfying resolution. Down-to-earth Corinna's second (Earthly Delights, 2007) is a congenial whodunit peopled by charmingly quirky characters and adorable cats.

    Turned off.

I was terribly disappointed the author chose this book of fiction to interject her personal, political views. I find it deeply insulting that she chose to insult former President George W. Bush. Even though her views are her own, she should have kept them to herself. The media and his haters have made him fair game but he does not deserve the disrespect from this foreign author. I will not read another book in this series.

    Great mystery

After quitting her job as a high powered accountant Corinna Chapman now runs a bakery Earthly Delights in Melbourne. She is very happy with her sexy ex- Islamic soldier Daniel, who loves her svelte figure. She is kind hearted to fifteen years old Jason, a former heroine addict who she makes delicious muffins. Jason hopes to own a shop one day if he can stay clean and Corinna is determined he will.------------------- Corinna bites in a candy bought from Heavenly Pleasures and is shocked to find the filling is not raspberry but a chili sauce. The owners admit this happened several times in the past week and they have no clues who is sabotaging their business, how or why. Corinna promises to find the culprit, but she also has another problem to solve. A new tenant moves into the building and he keeps to himself. A bomb threat evacuates the building and when the tenants can return, they find the new tenant¿s apartment ransacked. Corinna¿s police friend tells her Mr. Recluse is hiding out until he can testify at an upcoming trial. An explosion in his apartment tells Corinna that whoever is after him is dead serious. She and the other tenants fix up his apartment, but many of the residents find themselves at the mercy of thugs seeking Mr. Recluse.------------- Kerry Greenwood, author of the bestselling Phryne Fisher historical mysteries, has another hit series on her hands as affirmed by her second Corrina Chapman tale Heavenly Delights. Corinna and Phryne are polar opposites physically and emotionally, but both are contended with their lives. Readers will enjoy HEAVENLY PLEASURES with its off beat characters especially the plus size heroine as she works two mysteries.---------------- Harriet Klausner
