A thought provoking examination of who Helen might have been, how she might have lived her life and how she is perceived. The author also examines how history and civilization have considered and re-considered the idea of "the perfect beauty". A very enlightening and well written book.

I highly recommend this book. This is the best book on Helen of Troy I've found. The information was clear and the subject was very insightful. Bettany Hughes examines what a Bronze Age Helen would wear, how she would act, and the daily life of a Spartan princess. She flawlessly gives a thorough biography of Helen of Troy, while analyzing her in other periods in history through different authors, texts, plays, and people. Overall, the book was very interesting and I certainly learned a lot about the truth of Helen!
