What's great about the Hellboy volumes is that half of them require no previous knowledge to enjoy. "The Crooked Man & Others," is a prime example of said volume. Four stories appear here, each one a wonder to read. They range from horrific to hilarious, deep to popcorn, and mature to G-Rated. At $17 it's really a lot of bang for your buck, and a fantastic tribute to Mignola's writing skills. I'd recommend buying this one early on, even though it's the most recent volume. *Note: Chronologically, the stories here take place before volume nine, but mostly after volume six.
