School Library Journal - School Library Journal
Gr 6-9 Since their actress mother did not have time to raise them, twins Syril and Katha have been separated for nine yearsSyril was raised by a relative in Wyoming, and Katha by an aunt in New York. Now at 15 they are reunited in New York. Syril meets a street vendor and helps him sell his illegal wares. When Katha becomes worried that Syril is attracted to her boyfriend, she wonders just how nice she has to be to this ``new-found'' sister. Before school starts, the twins get identical haircuts and clothes so that they can confuse everyone. In the end, Katha accepts Syril, and they do become friends instead of rivals. The plot is disjointed and does not flow smoothly. Worst of all are the stereotypes of the main charactersSyril as the naive country girl and Katha the wise city girl. The book doesn't succeed in sustaining suspense about whether or not the girls will ever become friends, but most readers won't care anyway. Bonnie L. Raasch, C. B.
