Enter Hellsing, an agency, long in tooth, with the experience, know-how, and... er... equipment to handle the problems that arise when vampires, ghouls, and the like take on these dark forces. "What equipment?" you may say. How about another vampire, and a big pistol loaded with special silver bullets? That oughta do the trick. But what really knocks 'em dead is the sharp wit, awesome artwork, and crazy, bloody action that make up the manga. Hellsing the long-awaited manga is finally in America, thanks to Dark Horse Comics and the folks at Digital Manga, and you're gonna love it. Come get some smart-ass gore and action as only Japan seems to produce, in that crazy "non-Western" format the kids seem to love. And nice and thick at a full 200 pages! The night is dark, but at least those wacky anti-heroes from Hellsing can make light of it.

Editorial Reviews

Publishers Weekly
Another in a long line of manga featuring an off-kilter hero, this lively tale about vampire hunters features the eponymous top-secret organization based in England that's called on for only the toughest jobs. Hellsing's top vampire hunter is Alucard, a lanky figure in an oversized hat and a duster that swirls dashingly as he blows bad guys to smithereens with his arsenal of enormous firearms. Alucard, it turns out, is actually a vampire himself, and just why he's tearing up his own kind is open to question, but then, Hellsing doesn't lend itself to much deep contemplation. It's mostly a fun, violent romp. In the first story readers meet a young policewoman who joins the undead after becoming an innocent victim in a battle. Police Girl, as she's known, comes to the organization via Integra, Hellsing's leader, and her adaptation to her new life affords some amusing moments. In a flashback, readers learn how Integra took over Hellsing and how she first met Alucard when he rescued her from her own murderous relatives. Later, the heroes nearly meet their match in Father Alexander Anderson, a superhuman priest who works for Section XIII, the Vatican's own vampire division. The bloody battle is accompanied by some rather awkward religious sparring between the Catholic Church and Hellsing, which is sworn to protect, believe it or not, the Protestant Church. It's goofy details like this that give the book some charm and energy. Hirano's storytelling is easy to follow, as stylish close-ups of the "we're-groovy-and-we-know-it" characters explode into violent full-page illustrations of all-out mayhem. 'The Bird of Hermes is my name, eating my wings to make me tame.'

    WHOOO! This is a manga that fufills many fetishes. Blood and gore to the extreme, vamprie lovers, werewolf lovers, people interested in the Nazis... But I'm getting ahead of myself aren't I? This is one of my top ten favorite manga series of all time. I love it to death. The character Alucard is the coolest vampire I've ever seen. That you'll ever see. There are guns blazing in every volume. And the guest stars are quite an interesting lot on their own. If you want to see what happens when a love for horror, violence and a sickly dark sense of humor come together in a manga, Hellsing is ALL GOOD. God and Her Majesty be with you, AMEN.

    Truly the best.

    Want manga with action, blood, amazing artwork and a beautiful display of characters? Then you want Hellsing. By far the best manga out there (that I've ever read), Hellsing is an addicting blend of Vampires, top secret English organizations, and Nazi plots... and of course, no manga series (er, including England anyway) would be complete without the Vatican (Section 13 Iscariot, to be exact) stirring up trouble, that is until they... well... I can't tell, but it's good, I promise, and actually kinda funny... Teehee... anyways, from eating a guy with his right arm to crashing a plane onto a Nazi battleship and proceeding to kill that guy too, Alucard (the main character) is certainly the coolest Vampire out there. He has just enough dark humor in him to make him very scary, yet not cheesy or overly gothic as most Vampires are portrayed. And he has hair that is just as magical as Nny's shirt, but thats not the point... The point is that he and the rest of the wonderful characters make up something I and my friends can read over and over (etc.) again and still be as excited as though it was the first time we'd opened it. Very few seem to get this, but all ask, 'Just how is Alucard so damn cool?' Try spelling 'Alucard' backwards and you'll get your answer. >3

    Sexy and scary

    One of the main characters is Count Dracula with guns. How can this be a bad thing? The best series I have ever read, hands down.

    And Shine Heaven Now

    Alucard is amazing, and so is Hellsing. ..I made the mistake of watching the TV shows and the OVAs before reading the manga (not a good idea) so I already knew what I was getting into. But the manga is a hundred times better then the TV version was, however, and I thoroughly enjoyed myself. I'm definently going to read the rest! The characters are amazing, the story is engaging, and the artwork is very good-I am definently hooked!

    Hellsing forever!

    This is one of my favorite mangas ever! Sadly I have something that a few people have probably figured out...Alucard is Dracula spelled backwards! Still I love this manga more than anything in the world! I don't care too much for Dracula books,but this manga is way different from those books!

    Addicting, with a hint of humor..

    This is easily my favorite manga out there [to date]. I've been a big fan of the anime, and the manga adds so much more flavor to the story. The artwork is gorgeous and the storyline is about the same [it flows a little faster]. A bit pricey compared with most manga titles, but [in my opinion] worth the extra bucks. Keep in mind that the story will surpass the 'first season' of the anime and continue on to the 'second'.

    Hellsing = The Best....EVER!

    Hellsing is the best vampire manga ever! Alucard as in the Anime is on a roll and the center of attention. The best anime I've ever read (took me half an hour to read) and it'll leave ANYONE wanting and wishing for more. I cannot wait until volume two comes out. It's splendid alright.
