    Helsreach is Damn Good

If you like Warhammer 40,000 with its requisite killing, death and dying, where no one is too good to kill off, then this is for you. It does give a glimpse of the futility of war and how the powers that be can ask some to do the something, even though everyone knows it will be for naught. My only complaint is was too short and perhaps not enough development of side plots. Some of the peripheral characters have important parts but you don't get to read how they are doing except in snippets. Still, it is a page turner for Warhammer fans.

    Good Space Marine Novel

I thought the book was pretty good expect it seem a little slow in the beginning but toward middle and the ends it got pretty intense. This book also has some pretty good characters, who you can really connect to.

    I Also Recommend:

Helsreach a good novel for fans of the Warkammer 40K universe or the reader looking for dark sci-fi.

It is the second novel the Sapce Marine Battles Series. However since they are being written about different Space Marine Chapters they are all stand alone books. For those new to the Warhammer 40K universe imagine a universe where aliens and humans fight each other for new planets, resources or in the Orks case just the fun of going to war. It is a dark, scary universe and one of the darkest spots in this universe is the world of Armageddon. The orks have come to this industrial world that has been a battlefield before to slay every living thing on the planet.
Standing in there way are the forces of the Adeptus Mechanicus, the Imperial Guard and the vaunted Space Marines. The novel is mostly set in the sprawling hive city of Helsreach. The Space Marines of the Black Templars Chapter have sworn to defend the city. The Space Marines are geneticly engineered humans that have been surgicaly and psychologicaly changed to become the greatest warriors of mankind. However in that transformation they have lost some of their humanity and this makes many of them callous toward the very humans they were created to protect. To make matters worse each chapter is an army in and of itself, imagine it as the warriors of a city state of Greece. They owe loose alleginces to humanities other warriors but their relationship is strained.
Facing them are the invading hordes of the orks. Orks follow a simple rule of might makes right and the biggest run the smaller ones. They are incrdibly warlike and what they lack in intelligence it is offset by numbers and an awe inspiring rage.
The novel is really geared toward the fans of the 40K universe but first time readers can also find enjoyment in it. Just don't expect many rosey outcomes to this book. It is a story about a bloodbath and it lives up to it.
