About the Author

John McPartland, DO, MS works for the University of Vermont, Department of Family Medicine. Beginning cannabinoid research in 1981, Dr McPartland has researched the history and evolution of the cannabis plant, synergistic action of cannabis compounds, and therapeutic uses of medical cannabis. He received his BS in Botany and Chemistry from Penn State, his MS in Plant Pathology from University of Illinois, and his Doctor of Osteopathy from Chicago College of Osteopathic Medicine.

McPartland (U. of Vermont) and two members of the Amsterdam-based International Hemp Association review research published over the past half century, the earlier works much outdated, and the later scattered in the semi-clandestine grey literature of illicit growers. They begin with the prerequisite information about crop biology relating to principles of plant protection, requirements for growth, and taxonomy and ecology. Then they look at such diseases and pests as insects and mites, fungal diseases, abiotic diseases, and post-harvest problem.
