Henry Clay - The Great Compromiser is the biography of Henry Clay, a nineteenth-century American statesman and orator who represented Kentucky in both the House of Representatives and United States Senate. Known as "The Great Compromiser" and "The Great Pacificator" for his ability to bring others to agreement, he was the founder and leader of the Whig Party and a leading advocate of programs for modernizing the economy. Clay made an immediate impact in his first congressional term, including becoming Speaker of the U.S. House of Representatives. Clay was also called "Henry of the West" and "The Western Star." Although his multiple attempts at the presidency were unsuccessful, to a large extent he defined the issues of the Second Party System. Henry Clay - The Great Compromiser is highly recommended for those interested in learning more about this statesman from Kentucky.
