Overview

Friends to lovers to...parents?

Mallory Lombard and Drew Driscoll grew up next door to each other in a small cottage town of Port Carling, north of Toronto. Despite their differences—Mallory is a homebody, Drew an independent journalist addicted to travel—they’ve been best friends forever.

Best friends, and only friends, until one snowbound weekend on a ski trip in the Rockies when unexpected sparks fly and they end up in bed together. Later, they both agree it was a mistake to risk their friendship by becoming lovers.

Easy enough to say, but Mallory has never cared for any man more than Drew—and two months later she discovers she’s pregnant with his child. Keeping the baby is a given—but what will Drew say? She’s about to tell him the news when his mother unexpectedly dies.

Drew changes his plans and travels back to Port Carling. Before long he is completely overwhelmed. Funeral arrangements, a house to sell—and who will run the family newspaper now that his mother is gone? Then he finds out about the baby. Perhaps the universe is telling him it’s time to settle down. But is he ready? (pregnant heroine, series romance, baby, friends to lovers)

    Entertaining romance

Mallory Lombard and Drew Driscoll grew up together as neighbors in Port Carling, Ontario, but as adults they have gone down different paths. Mallory loves living in her hometown even though her aloof Aunt Norma raised her after her parents died over three decades ago. On the other hand, in spite of his loving single mother, Drew has traveled the world as a journalist. On his last stay in town, circumstances lead Drew and Mallory into making love together for the first and only time. He returns to his world beat unaware that his best friend is now pregnant.
Drew is on his way to Tel Aviv when Mallory informs him that his beloved mother Angie died from cancer. Stunned by not knowing Angie was ill and feeling guilty for not spending more time with his mom, Drew returns home for the funeral. While staying in Port Carling, Drew begins to assess what is important in life. He concludes that he loves Mallory and their unborn, and believes she returns his feelings. However, he is unsure whether he can stop his globetrotting activities to run his mother¿s small town newspaper even with the love of Mallory as an impetus.
HER BEST FRIEND¿S BABY is an entertaining contemporary romance that concentrates on what is really important in life. The lead characters are a captivating couple struggling with their love vs. their different lifestyles. Though she is introduced as having just died, Angie serves as the focal point to the tale by making everyone especially the lead duo reassess their values. C.J. Carmichael provides readers with a wonderful relationship drama that concentrates on those uplifting values that serve as the essence of the human spirit.
Harriet Klausner
