    Pleasantly Surprised

This is by far the best romance novel I have read. Admittedly it has been awhile. I had my obsession with Harlequin romances a few years ago. This book is in a class all it's own. I love the fact that it is set in a different era; think Jane Eyre, the uncut version. Yes, there are the typical steamy sex descriptions but there is also wonderful character development I wasn't expecting. The plot is also exciting-at times I felt I was reading a mystery novel as well. A fantastic read that is worth staying up until 2am to finish! (I just did)

    Great Read!

I snuggled down one evening with this book and couldn't put it down until it was finished.

Her Husband's Harlot tells the story about the new Marquess of Harteford, Nicholas Morgan who comes about his title by a twist of fate. Growing up in the London stews, he doesn't feel like he belongs there. Until he meets Helena.

Helena is a sheltered wallflower who must make a great match to save the family from financial ruin. A bluestocking through and through, her life has been through books until she meets Nicholas.

The two together marry for their attraction but soon realize that they are strangers. Will their marriage be able to survive? Or will secrets from Nicholas' past ruin their tenuous relationship?

The best thing about the book is the two main characters, Nicholas and Helena. Nicholas, as a main character, is suitably brooding, dark hero with a traumatic history. Helena, while innocent, is willing to take risks to become someone different and to grow.

Add to the mix a great cast of characters, you have a great first novel.

Well written and fun to read. Would highly recommend.

    Fantastic read!

So I've been reading historicals for years. Authors I love are Lisa Kleypas, Eloisa James, and Galen Foley. But lately I have gotten bored with the dukes by the dozen and the bluestocking spinsters. I was looking for something different, when I stumbled upon this book. Hadn't read this author before (think this is her only book?) and decided to take a risk based on the sample. I am glad I did. And that my husband had the kids out on a play date! Before I knew it, I finished the whole thing. This story has everything: characters to love, sizzling sexual tension (and the real thing), and just a fresh style that made me laugh aloud at times. I'll be on the look out for book two!

    a steamy read!

huzzah -- still fanning myself with my nook! this is a hot and fast-paced ride through a not-your-usual regency london (probably not for those looking for a "sweet" regency, though). i loved the chemistry between the hero and heroine, the witty dialogue, and the underlying mystery of the story. definitely a keeper & can't wait for more in the series.

For some reason I had this book waiting in queue for a number of days indecisive abut buying it. I'm very cautious when it comes to buying books but thank God I was given a gift card and decided to buy it. It was one of the best decisions made. This book was amazing from start to finish,. I felt for the heroine as she regarded herself as not attractive enough and the hero who thought he wasn't good enough. Both their insecurities made them both very relatable and likeable. Although at times I was frustrated in their lack of trust in each other,I was glad that they were able to resolve their issues. Did I forget to mention the scorching hot love scenes. YOWZAA!!!! I think my eyebrows got scorched they were so hot. I hope the author is able to keep this level of heat going in her upcoming books.

Oh, my, it got quite hot while reading this book....

I loved the alpha male in this book. He worked his way up from the streets of London and was doing quite well until fate brought him a title and all its trappings. In order for him to be accepted into the ton, he marries a girl with a good pedigree but whose family is in financial straits. I loved that the heroine is not your typical "diamond of the first water". She is pretty and curvaceous or plump by regency standards. She does everything she can to win her husband over and oh, my, the things a woman will do for the love of her husband. It is a must read! Make sure the kiddies and husband are away to enjoy this steamy regency novel.

An amazing book from beginning to end!

So where to start ... I LOVED this book. At first, I wasn't sure the rest of the book could be as entertaining as the sample, but boy was I wrong. This is not your ordinary romance. The H/h have amazing chemistry and I found myself rooting for their HEA. But not only are those two believable and likable, and the other characters are too (there's a couple I hope will get their own books). The plot had enough twists to keep me turning the pages. As for the sex -- I agree with the other reviews: HOT! and not just physically. I could really feel the emotions b/w the H/h. This one gets five stars, a keeper!

    Loved it

Now it is not a book for anyone under 18. I found myself blushing at the coarse language, but this was great story nonetheless. It had me laughing in some parts and the characters are likable and real. It was exciting, never boring and fun. This was the first book I've read by the author and I look forward to reading more. I highly recommend it!

An Erotic Twist on Historical Romance

The title tells you what you need to know.

    Harlot: A promiscuous woman.
That word right there should clue you in on the novel’s sex: bawdy yet HOT. If you’re not into those kinds of scenes, this isn’t for you.

That being said, the title also includes the word husband.
This novel focuses on a husband and wife and their journey toward building a strong, enduring marriage. That kind of marriage requires both emotional intimacy and physical intimacy. You can’t have one without the other.

Nicholas and Helena deal with past and current conflicts, insecurities, and miscommunications, just like any other couple, and they do it with drama and humor, mystery and intrigue, and sweet romance and erotic love scenes.

    Works for me!

HER HUSBAND'S HARLOT is the first book in the Mayhem in Mayfair

HER HUSBAND'S HARLOT is the first book in the Mayhem in Mayfair series. It is the story of Lady Helena Harteford and her husband Nicholas Morgan, Marquess of Harteford. Nicholas was an unexpected Marquess. He was raised in St. Giles and rose to a respectable merchant class when he met his mentor. As an adult, he discovered that he was a legitimate heir. Despite this, however, he is haunted by his past and feels a deep feeling of inadequacy especially regarding his new bride. Helena is the daughter of the Earl of Northgate. Helena and Nicholas met and married in a short period of time. They had a disastrous wedding night because of Nicholas' feelings of inadequacy and Helena's innocence.

A month into their marriage, Helena finds out that Nicholas intends to visit a brothel. She ends up as part of the masquerade and seducing her own husband. This book has some of the elements that I tend to dislike: the characters do not talk to one another and much of the conflicts of the book could be resolved by honesty. I ended up liking this book, however. The characters are very vibrant and it is a very erotic story. I was very engaged in the story and I even understood that these characters while attracted to one another all along actually did not know each other very well before they married. That makes it difficult for them to even understand how to communicate with one another.

For a historical, the sex scenes are very graphic and the descriptions are very explicit which may not appeal to everyone.

I can understand why the story does not work for everyone but I enjoyed it overall.

This novel was to explicit for my taste and should have been listed as erotica. The vulgar language and explicit sec scenes detracted from the basic story and are the reason I would not buy anything else from this author.

Helena and Nicholas marry for love but because of Nicholas's past, and his painful first joining pulls away from his wife. Unable to release his pent up desire he attends masquerade where courtesan's are the main attraction. Helena finds the ticket for the masquerade and decides to confront her husband but instead of confronting him she ends up being seduced by him. This book was good, and Nicholas never actually cheated on his wife but in his heart and mind he did. I had a problem with Nicholas and the emotional wall he was building between him and his wife but after reading about his childhood it didn't come as a surprise that he would be a bit misguided about life. I am glad that Helena persisted in perusing him, and the ending was well done. I do recommend reading.
