Editorial Reviews

Publishers Weekly
Just in time for Grandparents' Day comes a trio of titles that celebrates intergenerational love and friendship. Here Comes Grandma! by Janet Lord, illus. by Julie Paschkis, profiles a grandmother who goes to great lengths-taking skis down a wintry slope, sailing high in a hot-air balloon-to give her grandchild "a great big hug!" Patterned fabrics, an earthy palette and gently rolling landscapes make the artwork as warm as the heroine. Copyright 2005 Reed Business Information.
School Library Journal
PreS-Gr 1-Grandma sends a letter to her grandchild announcing that she is coming for a visit. Each spread then shows how the woman plans to reach her destination. "I'll put on my boots and walk a long way to see you"; "I'll pedal my bicycle and zip over the hills to see you." The refrain, "Here comes Grandma!" appears throughout. The spunky woman and her faithful dog are depicted traveling by horse, car, train, skis, hot-air balloon, and plane, each mode seeming more adventurous than the last. When Grandma finally arrives, she delivers a "great big hug" to the delighted child. The simple, rhythmic text suits the mood of the story, and the vivid gouache illustrations have a warm, folklike quality. While not an essential purchase, this charming book is suitable for storytimes and larger collections.-DeAnn Tabuchi, San Anselmo Public Library, CA Copyright 2005 Reed Business Information.

A good gift before Grandma arrives!

I sent this to my granddaughters, ages 3 & 7, before visiting them.
The older read it to the younger several times!

The cute text and vibrant illustrations along with the refrain,"Here Comes Grandma" was a hit!

My 4 year old loves it

We just received this book & my 4 year old loves it! She loves to join in on the 'Here comes Grandma!'. It's a really sweet story about a grandma going to all lengths to visit her grandchild. The illustrations are wonderful as well. Thumbs up.
