A great gift idea...

    David Pelham
Little Simon, 2008
ISBN: 9781416954408
Reviewed by Debra Gaynor for ReviewYourBook.com, 10/08
4 stars
Great gift idea¿
From the moment I set eyes on Here Comes Santa, I could hardly wait to open it. The cover is nicely done with Santa carrying a sack of toys on his back. The shiny silver stars are sure to grab the attention of most children. The pop-ups are well done. The wreath is beautiful. The house with the sleeping child¿s eye popping open was my favorite.
The text is a simple rhyme. I would have liked a bit more text and some tabs to pull on or doors to open. However, this is a delightful Christmas book. I always hesitate to give a child a popup book, because I do not like to see them destroyed. This book is sturdy and can with stand a child¿s tugging hands. Here Comes Santa will make a great Christmas gift for a child or adult.

    INGENUOUS PAPER ENGINEERING

Few youngsters are able to resist pop-up books while many parents can because some are so flimsy that they tear with the first reading. You know how young ones love to pull the covers all the way back so the pop-ups go up as far as they can - unfortunately some pop-up and out. Not Here Comes Santa!

We've popped this mini book full force about a dozen times so far, and it is a sturdy one. Not only does it withstand numerous pops but the paper engineering is amazing - everything from Santa and sleigh riding over rooftops with a bag full of toys to a little one supposedly sleeping but keeping one eye open for the arrival of that generous gentleman.

Our favorite pop-up is in the center, a town with buildings, a frozen pond and many trees. When we remember that this is a mini book (5 1/2"" by 4 1/2"), we can begin to appreciate the ingenuity of the paper engineer.

Enjoy!

- Gail Cooke
