I'd give this story a 2.75. There were some things I enjoyed in this book. Nathan was one, the pacing and flow were another. The length worked well also, being a novella, and of course, the smexy times were very hot. Unfortunately though a majority of the book just didn't work for me. And the reason is mainly due to the way the secret baby trope was played out. In my opinion, there's two ways to handle this trope, first is the hero being made aware of his child early on in the story and the conflicts/issues that arise from that make for strong character development and a good story. Then there's the way that the trope was done in this book. Which is not wrong, it just doesn't work for me. It's where the heroine keeps the hero in the dark for the majority of the story—usually digging her grave deeper by sleeping with him—then he accidentally discovers the child before she can tell him. Resulting in one furious and betrayed hero… for a very short amount of time due to only having a few pages left to get to the HEA. By the time I realized this trope fell into the latter category, I was already 40% in and invested with the hero. So the final 60% I basically skimmed, only slowing at a few key points. I also had issues with Paige, she is a violent and abusive woman. I was surprised she resorted to physical violence with Nathan… being a lawyer and all, you'd think she'd be good at arguing. And this was not just once, it occurred a few times. Even though he put up with it, it endeared Nathan to me knowing that he loved her so much that he'd allow her to make a fool of him in such a painful and demeaning way. Overall, this book walked a fine line of like and dislike for me. I'd recommend it to fans of this version of the secret baby trope. I have no regrets reading this one, I only wish that it had been more to my style, which is no one's fault but my own. Happy reading!
