Overview

Nathan Blackrope has never forgotten a single thing about Paige Weston. Not how much he loved her or the way she betrayed him, and not the plans they had once made. Plans that included marriage and children…things Nathan has never found—or wanted—with anyone else. Now Paige is back and Nathan is about to discover the shocking reason she left him…and why she has finally returned.

Getting intimately involved with Nathan again is the last thing Paige intends to allow when she returns to Trinity. She has never forgiven him for the way their relationship ended. In spite of her best efforts, she is still drawn to the proud Apache man who once stole her heart and gave her nothing in return. Nothing except her beloved child—a child whose father has no idea he exists…

Though Debra Webb has distinguished herself as an author of romantic suspense, she began her career writing sassy and sexy romances for Kensington’s Precious Gems. For the first time these heartfelt stories, which were sold only in Walmart for one short month, are available as ebooks.

    An Okay Read

I'd give this story a 2.75. There were some things I enjoyed in this book. Nathan was one, the pacing and flow were another. The length worked well also, being a novella, and of course, the smexy times were very hot. Unfortunately though a majority of the book just didn't work for me. And the reason is mainly due to the way the secret baby trope was played out. In my opinion, there's two ways to handle this trope, first is the hero being made aware of his child early on in the story and the conflicts/issues that arise from that make for strong character development and a good story. Then there's the way that the trope was done in this book. Which is not wrong, it just doesn't work for me. It's where the heroine keeps the hero in the dark for the majority of the story—usually digging her grave deeper by sleeping with him—then he accidentally discovers the child before she can tell him. Resulting in one furious and betrayed hero… for a very short amount of time due to only having a few pages left to get to the HEA. By the time I realized this trope fell into the latter category, I was already 40% in and invested with the hero. So the final 60% I basically skimmed, only slowing at a few key points. I also had issues with Paige, she is a violent and abusive woman. I was surprised she resorted to physical violence with Nathan… being a lawyer and all, you'd think she'd be good at arguing. And this was not just once, it occurred a few times. Even though he put up with it, it endeared Nathan to me knowing that he loved her so much that he'd allow her to make a fool of him in such a painful and demeaning way. Overall, this book walked a fine line of like and dislike for me. I'd recommend it to fans of this version of the secret baby trope. I have no regrets reading this one, I only wish that it had been more to my style, which is no one's fault but my own. Happy reading!

This is about secrets and what a lack of communication gets you.

This is about secrets and what a lack of communication gets you. It's about a wealthy father disliking his daughter being in love with an Indian. No, this isn't a Western, but a romance with stereotypes in the present day. There were times I wanted to smack the "h" because she was acting more like a child. There are two sexy love scenes, that are not very descriptive, but have a lot of passion - I would rate it mild, compared to other Romance Novels. Buy the bundle, it is a better deal. This is book one, of a 4 book bundle..I think it is called In His Touch. (ljb)

    Okay

This was an okay quick read. Somewhat predictable, and it had a few racial sterotypes in it, but it was an okay read.
