This is a lovely, engaging book about a little hermit crab that travels to various real-life destinations looking for a new shell (because Hermy has outgrown his old shell). My kids (ages 8,6 and 4) love the story and the illustrations. Their favorite characters are Hermy the Hermit Crab, Shy Sand Dollar, and Swift Sea Horse. They also like how Hermy goes to real places that we have visited while on vacation...all the localities are in the vicinity of Charleston, South Carolina. There is a map of the journey, and an informative 'Hermy's Beachside Glossary' that answered a lot of questions that my children had. Detailed information of the biology of the hermit crab is included at the end, which was great for my 8-year-old and me!! A rare find among children's books, and a fresh, different subject matter and format. I have given this for birthday gifts to other kids, and it was a big hit. I think all children love the beach. Even if they have never visited Charleston, most kids love sand dollars, sea horses, lighthouses, and shipwrecks!!Was this review helpful? Yes NoThank you for your feedback.
