How many of us have ever dreamed of being a super hero? Well, imagine taking the best parts of yourself and having them amplified because your DNA was altered because of a meteor shower releasing radiation above you. If you're strong, you're superstrong, if you're pretty and beautiful, you're intoxicating to other people. You get the idea. This book follows the antics and efforts of three really good friends and how they've changed from regular people into real life super heroes, helping the police and others fight crime in the city. I loved learning about their powers and basically just enjoying their sheer "joy" when they find out what they can do. Kevin Rau creates a fantastic world that's interesting, fun, jokey and sexy all at the same time. He describes the abilities in vivid detail and you can picture exactly what the heroes experience right along with them. It was a lot of fun and I recommend it for anyone that loves this type of genre.

H.E.R.O. Metamorphosis
By: Kevin Gerald Rau
Book 1 – H.E.R.O. Series
First Line: Twenty, and my life is ending.
Book Review:
Stephanie Quinn, Lance Casey, and Rael Stromm, three twenty-something friends who spent the last ten years together, will be changed forever.
Beautiful brunette Stephanie hooks up with 6’6” giant muscled Mr. All-American Lance OR tough guy, long-haired Rael with the Dragon claw tattoo?
They all morph into supers with abilities beyond their wildest dreams and become driven by good versus evil to join the forces of Homeland Extraordinary Response Organization (H.E.R.O.). Their goal – take out mutants harming humans – above all safety for humanity. I love how each super has their own unique abilities. Watching them go through their changing bodies, mindsets, and learning how to handle their abilities put me right there, inside their experience.
Mr. Rau’s Sci-Fi/Fantasy Metrocity world-building and his superhero character-building expertise push the action-packed adventures to the limit. He sets the chapters in different story-star points of view, which keeps fingers flipping pages.
His stories, like some comic books, would make great superhero movies – similar in experiencing X-Men or the Avengers with a little romance to top off the ice cream Sunday tale, written tastefully delicious :0)
The end sets up the next adventures and succeeds in completing the Metamorphosis experience thoroughly.
I read romance, but love superhero adventures. Mr. Rau blends a good portion of action-packed thrills with a subtle romance that leaves me wanting more. If you enjoy superheroes and heroines, you’ll definitely get your money’s worth with these most-excellent adventures.

This starts out with an unlikely premise (like most good comic book heroes) but while the action is comic book like, he has managed to take the characters beyond the usual 4 color panel format, with more character development and interplay. If you still have your comic book collection (or it’s just a fond memory), you will enjoy this book, the first of a series.

You never know what you'll get with a new author. With H.E.R.O.s Metamorphosis, it's an entertaining, well-balanced read. Mr. Rau takes you inside a parallel universe where forces conspire to change some people into "supers" - people who develop a variety of superhero type abilities. The story follows 3 friends through their transformation, displaying well thought out character development with enough action to keep it moving. Character interactions are realistic, as are the unique problems their new abilities present. Rather than your typical storyline, the author brings an interesting perspective with a few surprises along the way. The author's website is also worth a look, providing additional character information and views, as well as updates on the next book in the series. I found this to be an entertaining, easy read, appropriate for teens and above, with enough depth to keep the interest of the more seasoned reader.
