About the Author

Theodore Roosevelt (1858-1919), was the 26th President of the United States. His politics led the U.S. more deeply into global affairs, and his leadership helped to found the Progressive Movement. He was also a writer, naturalist, and soldier as well as a politician. He won the Nobel Peace Prize in 1906. He lived by his slogan, “speak softly and carry a big stick.”

 

Henry Cabot Lodge  (1850-1924) was an American statesman and politician.  As chairman of the Senate Foreign Relations Committee, his opposition to the League of Nations established in the Treaty of Versailles formally ending World War I was central in its rejection by the Senate.
