Editorial Reviews

From Barnes & Noble

Even before his 2010 Heroes for My Son was published, Brad Meltzer heard insistent calls for a matching volume for female offspring. The strong demands emanated from his daughter who every day would march into his office and say, "Is my book done yet?" Now, to the relief of Meltzers large and small, the book is complete. Heroes for My Daughter offers a full assemblage of heroes worth admiring. The laudable roster includes Marie Curie, Jane Goodall, Rosa Parks, Sally Ride, Billie Jean King, Winston Churchill and Stevie Wonder.

Alisa Schnaars

Library Journal
In this she-version companion piece to his 2010 release Heroes for My Son, thriller writer Meltzer offers profiles of such important and inspiring women as Marie Curie, Audrey Hepburn, and Amelia Earhart. The entries are one to two pages each and include a photograph, the hero’s profession, and a Meltzer-manufactured heading. (Anne Frank is listed as “Witness” and Judy Blume as “Truth Teller.”) The entries pique interest for further research, more than provide any real information (Sally Ride “saw an opportunity and grabbed it”). But libraries with Meltzer’s Son volume may want to acquire the companion.
VERDICT This book may provide ideas for biography reports, but it is ultimately more of a coffee-table book than a library resource.

    Wonderful book

This book is a wonderful read. I loved it and already gave it to my daughter to read. Everyone person(s) that Brad Meltzer chose for this book was a wonderful inspiration for anyone. I loved that Brad had quotes from or about each hero and that he had people from his life that are his heroes. Great book. I absolutely loved it.

Heroes for My Daughter, written and read by Brad Meltzer, is an audiobook that will inspire you to be a role model for your daughter and to teach lessons through how you live your life. This audiobook includes an introduction explaining why the author wrote this book. There are thirty-three individuals included in this book. Each individual is a hero in the author’s eyes and has a quality which he hopes his daughter will aspire to in her own life. A few heroes included are Audrey Hepburn, Helen Keller, Winston Churchill, Dorothy Day, and Theodore Roosevelt. While these individuals are well-known, the reason they are included in this book is not because of their fame, but for a generous or inspiring act they have done in their lives.

This is an excellent collection of heroes. While listening to this audiobook, I really thought about the individuals I would like my daughter to look up to and also how I need to strive to be such an individual as well. I like that each track on the CD is about a different individual, making this easy to pop in and listen to a tidbit about a specific individual. I also like that Meltzer includes a little bit about each person, and also a quote from that individual. I love the personal touch that is included as the author is reading the book to his daughter in the recording studio. This is a treasure that every parent should have for their daughter.
