I'm all for paranormal novels. As an author of paranormal romance, reviewer, and all around lifetime reader, I love the genre as a whole. My usual reads are vampires, werewolves, witches, and fey. Mostly other worlds and the occasional set in modern times but with a whole other hierarchy in conjunction with present day.

Aside from paranormal I'm a big historical romance reader, Highlander, knights, the Regency period are some of my favorites. Never that I can remember have I read a novel that took ghosts, reincarnation, history, present day and romance and blended it into a novel of such quality.

I found myself unhappy by the middle of this book because I did not want it to go that way. Unsure of exactly how it should go but I did not like what was happening. That's a fabulous thing though. Often times, I can discover a plot way before the end. Additionally I was invested and still am in Elinor and Basil. Their love is something to reveal in.

However, my truly favorite character is Guy. He's a regular rake knight in shining armor. Lucky for me he gets his own book this month. Moreover, I'm hoping that I'll get my hands on it soon.
Truly a must read!

Heroes Gives New Meaning To Dream Lover!

What a wonderful book. I found myself completely and utterly immersed in the world created by Chris Karlsen. I had my emotions tried again and again, feeling elated at times, broken at others, then complete by the end.

The characters were well developed. So much so, that I could hear their voices so clearly in my mind that I could have sworn Basil or Guy were in the same room with me. I fell in love with these characters. I bleed right along with them, felt their pain and sorrow, and finally their victory.

The setting was magnificent, and I will never again read a story about a knight in shining armor, but what I will think back on this story, because Heroes Live Forever.

And lastly, the weaving of such an intricate tale of passion, denial, love, betrayal, and finally acceptance, was brilliant, and I loved the way Chris Karlsen pulled it off.

Great Summer Read

Heroes Live Forever is the wonderful story of Basil Manneville and Guy Guiscard, two Medieval Knights killed in a brutal battle against the French in 1356. Unable to cross over, both ghosts take up residency in the home of school teacher, Elinor Hawthorne. Elinor believes she's the only person living in the old English house that her grandmother left her, but soon discovers two handsome knights have not only made themselves at home, but have become Elinor's closest confidants. It doesn't take long for Elinor to fall in love with the charming, and sexy, Basil Manneville, and as much as Basil loves her he realizes he can no longer hold Elinor back from a normal life. He must let her go. But unexpectedly Basil is given a second chance at love and discovers that, indeed, true love does transcend all things, even if they seem impossible. This is a "can't put down book" and a fabulous summer read. Chris Karlsen is an up and coming author and someone to keep your eye on. I can't wait for the next book.

Intriguing and the perfect book for any reader

This book is so unique and innovative that it is hard to put down. I have never experienced a tale such as this. It has the feel of a paranormal, historical, and contemporary romance combined. With ghosts, reincarnation, and picturesque castles, it is a true romance reader's dream book. Ms. Karlsen has developed a novel so complex it satisfies readers in almost any genre.
When Elinor Hawthorne inherits a house in 1980's England, she doesn't expect to inherit the ghosts of two medieval knights as well. Basil and Guy are fiercely loyal to their country and every woman's dream man. The only problem is they are ghosts. When Basil falls in love with Elinor (and she with him), they soon realize that love between them cannot happen. Fate intervenes when an accident happens and Elinor dies. Basil, Guy and Elinor are reincarnated and the two lovers are given one more chance to find each other. Read it to find out if they can come together in the busy life of the twenty first century.

Wonderful Love Story!

I fell in love with the characters and the time. Ms. Karlsen did excellent research to paint the background for her story. If you like second chances, strong characters, and a well plotted book, this one's for you. I highly recommend this book. I can't wait for her next one!

Good Read, Great for the plane

I am always looking for new authors to read since I travel all the time and find a good book is better than a bloody mary! A friend in Seattle mentioned this author as part of her writers club, so I was happy to find it on B and N for my nook. It is so clever- a mix of modern and old world-with a handsome ghost and beautiful young woman.
very romantic- Ms Karlsen's writing is so descriptive by the end of the book, I was playing it in my mind like a movie. It really calls for a sequel- not that the ending did not satisfy me- I wanted to know more about their future together- or not?

Fabulous love story with a paranormal twist!

Elinor and Basil- a love that transcends time. I enjoy reading anything to do with past lives and ghosts, and Karlsen certainly delivers. Elinor has inherited her aunt's manor and soon discovers two dashing knights have taken up residence. Basil and Guy, both cut down in their prime at the Battle of Poitiers in the fourteenth century, find themselves drawn to Basil's ancestral home. Karlsen knows her history, as the research regarding the knight's weapons and dress, as well as the description of Poitiers shows. But, Basil and Elinor must battle the attraction they feel for each other; how can their love be realized when one is a ghost? The second half of the book takes place in another lifetime and is just as intriguing as the first. Will Elinor and Basil finally be able to realize their love for one another? I recommend you purchase the book to find out- you won't be disappointed.

What a wonderful book and the cover fits the story perfectly. I found myself completely and utterly immersed in the world created by Chris Karlsen. Her characters were well developed and I fell in love with all of them.
This is a romantic story of a wonderful knight who is given a second chance of life and love. As a ghost he falls in love with Elinor who has inherited his ancestrial lands. It is a delightful tale with romance and humor. It was hard to put down. I highly recommend it and I plan to read her next novel.

So Romantic!

This is one of the most romantic stories I've ever read! The characters are so well drawn, the plot is both LOL funny and touching at the same time. The writing is superb! I absolutely loved this book!

This was a beautiful tale of a love that transcends time and death.

The story opens with a battlefield scene... Many knights lose their lives fighting for England and the Black Prince, against an overwhelming French force.

Speed ahead in time: In the past, Elinor Hawthorne had sought to have ghostly experiences by visiting numerous "haunted" places to no avail. So... it was quite a shock for Elinor to encounter two ghosts, Basil Manneville and Guy Guiscard, both medieval knights, in the home that she has just inherited from her grandmother. Her grandmother had never shared with Elinor that her home was haunted! Her new home adjoins the grounds of Ashenwyck's ruins, Basil's heritage, and the two knights have grown accustomed to haunting the surrounding historical area. Elinor and Basil fall in love but Basil comes to realize that Elinor needs a normal life with a mortal man... He leaves... then Fate intervenes...

The story picks back up years later when they are both given another chance at love. This was a beautiful tale of a love that transcends time and death. Ghost stories have always fascinated me and this one adds romance... WooHoo!

Bottomline: Highly recommended to anyone that loves a good historical romance, not-scary ghost stories, or time-traveling romances. I'm looking forward to reading Journey in Time, the 2nd book in this series!

Enjoyed!

I really enjoyed this book. I haven't read a lot of ghost books, but I really enjoyed Basil and Guy. The book took a twist, but it was an interesting and enjoyable twist. I look forward to reading more by Chris Karlsen.

I loved the part about Elinor, Basil and Guy but the rest dragged on, did not care for Miranda, no explicit sex scenes. Not a keeper for me.

confidants, she begins to fall in love with Basil. Their love, however,
becomes impossible, for how can a woman have a relationship with a man
in spirit form? Thus, Basil leaves her. However, in a turn of fate and
one lifetime later, Basil is given a second chance to be with her. Will
their love transcend time and will they finally be together? I
throughly enjoyed reading Heroes Live Forever. It is a compelling,
well-written story that combines sweet romance, fantasy and time travel.
A strong-headed, feisty heroine, knights in shining armor, humor,
thrilling love scenes and a magnificent setting add the perfect sprinkle
of spice to the recipe. This is a romantic tale that will delight fans
of the genre. Recommended!

Wonderful romantic ghost story

A delightfull story that transends time. If a reader injoys a good love story then this is the book to choose. It has romance, and humar; a tear or two and sex without volgarity. The characters are realistic, likeable and interesting. It was hard to put down.
