Overview

It was just supposed to be a favor.

Penelope Lewis finally has her life in order. She's got a great career as a physical therapist and everything she wants. All she has to do is stay away from the wrong type of guys, which means NO military men.

When she agrees to treat an injured veteran as a favor to an old friend, she's pretty sure it's not going to work out. She wants to help but there's one thing she knows for sure. Alpha males make the worst patients.

Matt Simmons is a protector. And now his ultimate goal of being an Army Ranger is in jeopardy. Injured at war, he's willing to claw his way through physical therapy to achieve his dream. Now he just has to convince Penny that he's worth taking a chance on.

Suddenly he's got a new mission in life...

EXCERPT

Matt pushed off the wall and walked toward her. "So, you never answered my question. Is he your boyfriend?"

Penny shrugged. "I don't see how that's relevant. Why are you here? I think we can both agree we aren't a good fit."

"All we agree on was that I acted like an asshole. I'm sorry."

It wasn't the most eloquent apology, but she had no doubt it was sincere.

"I understand. That still doesn't mean that we should work together. I've only had a few military patients. Most of the people who come to me are athletes or here after an accident. You have some emotional issues, understandably, that I'm not sure how to deal with. I have no problem admitting that I'm not quite sure what to do with you."

"Do whatever you have to do. I promise I'll behave." Matt spread his hands. "I'm putting myself at your mercy."

It was tempting to turn around and walk away. He was just too much. Too volatile, too arrogant and definitely too handsome for her peace of mind. The easy decision would be to turn him down. Then she could write this whole thing off and get back to her safe, ordered existence. But in the end, it came down to the same factors she always used to make her decisions. She believed he wanted to get better. And she believed she had the tools to help him.

"Okay. I'll help you. But be warned, I'm a pretty tough taskmaster. Come on back, Sergeant. We might as well figure out your treatment schedule."

"We're back to being formal already? Do I need to remind you of the time I caught that snake and hid it in your backpack?" He stood close enough that she could feel the heat coming off his big body. "I thought we'd already established that you would call me Matt."

"Right. Sorry."

"Well? Let me hear it." He leaned over until Penny could see the flecks of gold in his brown eyes. "Go ahead, Penny. Say my name."

"Matt," she whispered.

His eyes lit with triumph.

Penny gulped as the circus troupe in her stomach started performing again. The only thing they'd established was that Sergeant Simmons made her feel everything her boyfriend didn't.

    So, so

This book had a lot of potential but fell flat compared to the previous two books, which I really enjoyed. The characters are not well developed, the story focuses more on his physical therapy than on the budding romance, sex scenes were skipped all together, and a good number of chapters were focused on the secondary characters and unrelated stories. As a result, the book was scattered and pretty boring, to the point that I skipped pages at a time. Quite a disappointment.

    Good not great

    ## Just OK. My least favorite of the series so far. Ridley and Raina's stories were fabulous, stunning in fact. And I was really looking forward to Matt's story because....well, let's face it: he's H.O.T. hot. But I have to admit I was disappointed. The Alexander family was still marvelous as was Matt himself (only reason I upped the rating to 3 stars). It was the heroine that didn't do it for me. She felt really cold and stuffy until the end. Really, I couldn't picture her at all. Was she pretty? Who knows? With the severe bun, the glasses, the grey slacks and the sensible white cotton underwear, it was hard to imagine this total hunk being so attracted to her. Something has to attract you enough to persue. I couldn't feel any chemistry between her and Matt, which is an absolute must in my opinion. And the couple of sex scenes were lackluster at best. It's like a different person wrote this. Jackson & Ridley and Nick & Raina's chemistry was off the charts. Hopefully, Eli's story will be better.

This is a perfect re-introduction of characters. Matt was introduced first in the steamy Teasing Trent pre-qual in the Alexander series. Now he is the shining stud in this third book. Matt oozes sex appeal with his down to earth personality & traditional morals which are shown throughout the book. However his cocky confidence and bedroom eyes gets him what and WHO he wants. This is the perfect love story. Strictly business Penny and Sergeant Sexy Matt are trying to figure out where exactly they fit in and what truly matters. I LOVE the Alexander series it keeps getting better & better and I CANNOT wait to read what Minx has in store for our Alexander men!
Minx really makes you fall in love all over again with each unique story. If you haven't read the pre-qual which is free and the two previous books you DEFINITELY need to! Garunteed page turners with roller coasters of emotions!

    LOVE this series!

I don't know what it is about this series, but I LOVE the Alexanders!! And not just the Alexanders...their extended family too! I love that this book was about Matt & Penny, yet it still entwined with the other characters and their stories continued on through this book. I can't wait for Elliott's book! And then hopefully followed by Bennett. Who else can we include in this series? I want it to continue!!!!

I love the Alexander series. It is like no other series I have

I love the Alexander series. It is like no other series I have read. Reading the same old characters in a series gets extremely boring to me, so I do enjoy the fact that it stems from the same family tree, or a close friend (which is the same as family) rather than the same 2 main characters.
I related to this book in particular. Having a family member suffer from PTSD, I could relate being a little nervous waking someone up while they are sleeping. I can relate to the bond Mara, and Matt have. I saw firsthand my mother “nagging” my uncle(her twin brother) to get a check-up, and I saw him giving in to his sister and going for his check-up.
I would highly recommend this book, along with the entire Alexander series. This author never seems to disappoint me.

So, it's no secret I love this author. And I lurve the Alexander

So, it's no secret I love this author. And I lurve the Alexanders series! The best thing about M. Malone is that she is consistent. Her books are great and you can count on her to entertain you!!

This one is no different. I loved it. When I got approved for the ARC, I did a quick happy dance and started rereading the first 2 to get myself reacquainted with all the hotness that is the Alexander family. I love me some Jackson and Nick and now Matt. Yum Yum.

Penny is all grown up and is now a Physical Therapist. Matt doesn't think he needs any help and especially none from his old babysitter, Penny. He couldn't be more wrong. This book has angst, humor, sexy times, and love. What more could you ask for? I hope there are going to be more in this series and you can bet I will be first in line. Don't hesitate on this one, ladies.

This can be a standalone, but it's best to read the first 2 just so you can love and appreciate the supporting characters. It's worth it!

Once again M Malone has done an outstanding job in writing book

Once again M Malone has done an outstanding job in writing book 3 in this wonderful Alexanders series! In book 3 He's the Man we get to read about Matt and Penny. M Malone captured there story so well it was like watching a romance movie on the big screen. The chemistry the two main characters have between one another made the story so real and very believable. If you are looking for a hot romance read then I recommend you get this book ASAP. Now for all those that hasn't read this series yet then start with book 1 One More Day and then book 2 The Things I Do For You because you don't want to miss anything!!! Nicely done M Malone and I can not wait to read Eli and Kay story next!

He's the Man is a real-life look at a couple’s courtship (between two outlandishly sexy, witty, gorgeous, although not perfect, people of course) and I found it quite refreshing. There wasn’t anything fabricated to make them struggle – just real-life issues for two characters that could be as real as you and me.

In He’s The Man, Malone gives her reader a story full of smart dialogue, compelling characters, and a strong story-line. The Alexanders and their friends will draw you in and keep you coming back for more.

    Alexander's Series continues with Matt

Book Synopsis: Matt Simmons is over Army doctors poking him. But when his sister won't stop nagging him to see their old babysitter, now a sought-after physical therapist, he gives in just to get some peace. Penny is finally putting down roots after a lifetime of moving around. She's got everything she wants, except the settled suburban life she longs for. All she needs is the perfect guy, which means NO military men. When Matt realizes that his old babysitter is h-o-t, he's suddenly seeing the benefits of therapy. But Penny still sees him as the bratty kid she used to babysit. Suddenly he has a new mission in life...

Okay, if you remember Matt from the first two books, you know that this sweet and over-protective hottie just needed someone to tie him down, ooh! Sorry! Bad thoughts err, good thoughts there. Okay, this sexy needed a girlfriend STAT! So with that being said, our beloved Minx wrote his story. And Minx delivers because she doesn't fail.

I must say after reading this. Oh. Em. Gee! Minx has done it again by making me fall in love ALL OVER AGAIN with the Alexander's. But Ho! Wait! It isn't an Alexander but one of their buddies who is 'like family' to the Alexander's. What?! You say? Yes, I say. Matt is the twin brother to Mara (from Teasing Trent) and best friends with Jackson (One More Day) and Nick (Things I Do for You). He is a military man and you know those military guys how NIIIIICE I mean, tough they discipline those abs, err bodies. Yeah, I am so drooling over the visuals that Minx paints for us readers in her books. But Matt has some injuries and needs severe physical therapy and that brings in brilliant Penny. Penelope (get this) was Mara and Matt's babysitter. But age does not make an impact when it comes to love. You so have to read how Matt bedazzles Penny and how they hook up. It's not pretty and you are so going to put on your cheerleading gear and root for Matt and Penny before you finish the book. Love the journeys that Minx takes me on and she does great giving Matt and Penny a chance at love, life, chances, risks, and weathering it all through friendship.

Another perk Minx tosses in each of her books are the updates on each of the Alexander's and even (clapping/so giddy) Elliot. He's the next book and I am salivating in anticipation for the continuing saga of these Alexander's.

As you know, I read the first book in this series only a few day

As you know, I read the first book in this series only a few days before I read this one (review found HERE). Sadly, this book didn’t live up to the memory I have of the first book, landing only a 3-star rating from me. I think part of this comes from the fact that there wasn’t the definite overtone of romantic suspense that so pulled me in. This book, for the most part, was a straight contemporary romance with a few moments of suspense at the end, wondering if Matt would come out alive.

But, that said, there was still plenty to like about this. I adore the Alexander family, which has certainly grown since the first book (the second book features Nick and Raina hooking up and getting pregnant). Mara, Matt’s sister, is still having issues with her fiance and Matt’s friend Trent. Ridley and Jackson are still crazy in love.

Penny seems to be a pretty solid heroine, dependable and serious about her career (she’s a physical therapist, which is how she re-meets Matt). I’m a little confused on the age thing, considering she apparently baby sat for him at some point yet there is never any reference to how many years are between them. You would think there would have been at least a momentary thought about “ohh, I’m so much younger/older than her/him” at some point, but other than a brief mention that she babysat Matt, that was it.

Matt is a true hero, injured in the line of duty while serving in the military. His whole life has focused on the armed services and ultimately making it to Special Forces. The injury he sustained puts a serious wrench into those plans and he goes to Penny at Mara’s instigation out of desperation since he’s just about given up hope he’ll ever heal properly.

The two slowly work their way around to each other. Another minor problem I had with this was the very brief time either of them spent on having any concern about the definite crossing of boundaries between doctor/patient as they got together. Even Penny’s boss, who clearly knew and was out to harass Penny (not sexually, just your run-of-the-mill jack-ass boss) at every opportunity basically turned a blind eye to the obvious relationship between them.

Still, I was happy to see them get their happily ever after and to see Matt come to terms with his situation so he could begin to create a new life with Penny. Penny learned to accept she couldn’t control everything (she was a military brat so spent a lot of time being hauled from place to place as a kid, I believe) and to live with a man who put his life in danger on a fairly regular basis.

I will definitely keep reading this series. I’m sure other books are as good as the first. This one just didn’t do it for me.
