Editorial Reviews

Publishers Weekly
The Nursery Play-Along Classic series offers two new board books: Jack and Jill by R.A. Herman, illus. by Olga and Aleksey Ivanov and Hickory Dickory Dock by Margaret Barritt, illus. by Jacqueline East. The text of each nursery rhyme runs along the top of the pages, while a narrative that fills in the blanks unspools along the bottom of the spreads (e.g., "Jack and Jill! It's time for your baths... Please fetch some water from the well," says their mother). Copyright 2006 Reed Business Information.
Children's Literature
Familiar rhymes are printed in bold text across the top of each page. A subtext that expands on the rhyme is placed below the illustrations. In this board book, the little mouse has a fine time playing hide-and-seek until he is finally welcomed home to bed and given a tasty piece of cheese. The inside cover shows caregivers the hand/body actions for sharing the rhyme with young children. The illustrations in soft pastel tones include many items to look at and could elicit further discussion. A delightful new packaging for familiar material. Other titles in "A Nursery Play-Along Classic" series include Jack and Jill, This Little Pig Went to Market and Pat-A-Cake. 2006, Handprint Books, Ages 1 to 3.
