Welcome to Harmony...

On the surface, this seaside town is a New England dream of cobblestone streets and charming colonial homes. In its sleepy little harbor, fishing trawlers bob next to pleasure yachts on sun-drenched waves. But beneath the picture-perfect waters and walkways lie tumultuous secrets that threaten to tear Harmony's families apart. Hidden Passions turns back the clock in the quant town more than twenty years to reveal the intimate details of those secrets..

Sam Bennett is the hardworking son of the town's police chief. Handsome and well built, he catches the eye of every woman in town. Unfortunately, his heart belongs to one who will break it..

Eve Johnson is an upstanding premed student who on a lark decides to pursue a private fantasy — one that could ravage her life...

Julian Crane is a wealthy law student who is desperate to marry the beautiful Ivy Winthrop, but the reason why could shatter Ivy's happiness forever..

T.C. Russell lives to become a tennis pro, but his heartfelt dream is about to be smashed in a way no one would ever suspect..

Grace Standish is a home-schooled farm girl who wants nothing more than to live a peaceful life in the country until her mother reveals a shocking secret...

Only one woman knows the intimate details of all their stories. While everyone in Harmony believes this woman is nothing more than a harmless eccentric, the truth is that she is an irrepressible sorceress of darkness who's been causing trouble in Harmony even before Prudence Standish accused her of being a witch in 1693 — a grudge this society shameness still holds today! She has always known the hidden passions of every man, woman, and child in this quiet harbor town. But only now is she ready to reveal that tantalizing details to you.

So turn off the Coast Road and enter Harmony...but be very careful if you should encounter a mysterious woman carrying a doll. As she's done with Harmoney townfolk for hundreds of years, she may very well look into your heart to see what it is you truly desire and grant it — for a terribly high price

Chapter One

Above the crashing waves of the New England coastline, crowning the top of Raven Hill, the Crane mansion stood overlooking the small town of Harmony like an imposing monarch.

Inside this vast estate, not so very long ago, an innocent pair of eyes searched the face of a refined, mature woman.

"Read to me, Mummy!" cried two-year-old Sheridan Crane, tucked beneath the covers of her miniature canopy bed.

Katherine Barrett Crane was forty-three. Though her blue gaze was no longer as clear as her daughter's, her hair not quite as golden, her features still reflected the aristocratic beauty that had descended from mother to child for generations.

The high, smooth forehead, sharply defined cheekbones, and natural slenderness were all part of the reason she'd passed the Cranes' careful scrutiny to become the bride of Alistair, the handsome heir to the Crane fortune, almost twenty-five years earlier.

Katherine could still recall her first weeks in Harmony as a young newlywed. Raised among the privileged members of high society, she'd been accustomed to the brilliant bustle around her family's elegant town house on Boston's exclusive Beacon Hill. In comparison, the sleepy harbor town of Harmony felt secluded- almost rustic.

Fearing she'd die of boredom, Katherine had urged her new husband to travel the globe with her. But their jet-setting life had abruptly ended when her slight body became pregnant with her son, Julian, and her doctors warned her to stay put.

Forced to remain in her new marital home, Katherine finally began to explore it: the cobblestone streets lined with quaint colonials; the lush town green; andthe crowded little harbor, where fishing trawlers were moored next to racing yachts.

Harmony, she discovered, had a heartbeat. Now that she was a few years older and the anxieties of her difficult pregnancy were pressing down upon her, she found a surprising comfort in listening to its faithful, steady rhythm.

There was dawn's flotilla of fishermen heading out to sea, then early morning's gaggle of children skipping toward school. Noon triggered the cannery's whistle and the raucous lunchtime break for town workers. Then came the baby stroller brigade, circling the Little League ball field like a tiny wagon train.

Sunset brought squawking gulls, trailing the returning boats, and the reliable turning of the old lighthouse beacon, which had safely guided Boston-bound ships along the coastline since before the Revolutionary War.

How could she not have loved Harmony from the start? It was a New England dream, tempting tourists to turn off the Coast Road and shop for marine relics at the antique store, snack on fried clams at the Lobster Shack, and become entranced by the spectacular streaks of scarlet that painted the horizon every evening.

Through spring, summer, and fall, the deep blue waves of Harmony's shoreline perpetually glistened in the bright sunlight, and laughter could always be heard bobbling atop the salt sea air.

It was only in winter that Katherine felt the gloom set in. Clouded skies hung over the slate-gray ocean like a weighted tent canvas, threatening to suffocate every living thing beneath. The streets and roads were icy and deserted, and Katherine felt cut off from the universe.

After Julian's birth, she had learned to cope with her cold-weather depression by jetting off to Aspen for skiing, Paris for shopping, or the Crane resort in Bermuda, where summer's vital glow never ebbed.

But ever since little Sheridan's difficult birth two years ago, however, Katherine could no longer escape the oppressive sadness, which now clouded her spirit the whole year through.

Most days her poor health had kept her a prisoner inside the Crane mansion. And Alistair was no help. His usual preoccupation with the family businesses left Katherine to fight her bleak periods of internal gloom all alone.

Perhaps that was why she clung to the only ray of light left in her daily existence- Sheridan. Absolute joy filled Katherine at the sight of her daughter's chubby cheeks and golden curls. But it was gazing into her bright blue eyes that cheered Katherine the most.

Unlike what she saw in the eyes of her grown son, Julian, Katherine could still see nothing but blissful innocence in Sheridan's eyes. And that's how Katherine wanted her to remain- unspoiled, untroubled, and unaware of the blemishes on the Crane family's past.

She prayed that Sheridan would never learn from Alistair what Katherine had over the years: How the Cranes had burned "witches" in the 1690s, shipped and traded slaves during the 1700s, and engaged in the murderous business of rum-running during Prohibition.

Nor did she want Sheridan to learn how, in the 1930s, the Cranes had treated their own Depression-stricken neighbors like dirt, instructing the bank to foreclose on any mortgaged farm that bordered their property- so the Cranes could expand their estate's riding trails and build four tennis courts.

For now, thank heaven, Sheridan knew only the tastefully decorated world of her nursery, tucked into the mansion's luxurious interior- and the smile of her mummy, which seemed to warm her more thoroughly than the soft pink blanket covering her custom-designed canopy bed.

Hearing the howl of the February wind outside, Katherine shivered a bit as she crossed the room and picked up Sheridan's favorite storybook. The masterfully preserved volume of fairy tales had been published in the nineteenth century and given to Sheridan on the day of her birth by one of the Harmony townspeople, an odd woman who hired herself out to tell fortunes at society parties.

"Once upon a time," Katherine began to read, "there lived a king and

This fortune-teller is of course, our own dear authoress, Tabitha Lenox! By the way, according to Tabby's diary, this little Sleeping Beauty fairy tale that Sheridan Crane likes so much- let's Just say that as it applies to Katherine Crane's life (not to mention little Sheridan's), the story is far from fictional!

    Great Book

I recommend all Passions fans to read this book. It tells about their lives from over 20 years ago and helps connect that to the show today. One of my friends who doesn't even watch Passions read the book and loved it.

Romantic look at Passions - 20 years before the show.

This book is great! It's got great love scenes and takes you back to when Sam and Ivy were together, and Sheridan was small and Katherine Crane was alive! The one problem was that it was too much about Sam/Ivy, and not enough about Sheridan/Luis/etc (they're the best) Anyway I totally recommend this!

    Some People....!!!!

Reading these reviews helped me buy the book, because almost every review was a 5 star. The thing that bothers me, is the people who are judging this book with 1 or 2 stars, are people who havent even seen the show!!! So please... if you are looking for a real PASSIONate novel.. go to the romance section of your local book store.

    Hidden Passions...a great book!

Hidden Passions is a wonderful novel! I recommend it for anyone who enjoys the tv show Passions. It gives extra information about the show, as well as a few secrets. I was dissapointed that it didn't say some things that I really wanted to know. The book was excellent and it is neat because the book is filled with little things called timm-notes that are supposed to be like written by Timmy, the character in Passions! They are funny and add a little bit of insight. The book is definitely worth your money. I have read it more than three times and every time that I read it I learn something new. The book includes information on characters such as Rebecca, Ivy, Julian, Eve, Sam, Grace, TC, Alistair, Katherine(Sheridans mother) as well as a variety of other characters. The book even includes why Tabitha dislikes the Standishes and the Cranes, which I found quite interesting!

    Absolutely wonderful

Hidden Passions is one of the best books I've ever read. I do watch the soap opera, Passions, so maybe it makes the book better, but it's so well-written. It was also sad and enthrilling.

I am such a great fan of 'Passions' and this book. 'Hidden Passions' really fills in some gaps on the show. I especially liked the parts about Grace and Faith Standish. I rate this 5 stars!!! P.S. Read the TV Guide July 7 and 14. The Lost Chapters of 'Hidden Passions'

    This is a great book!

I am 14 years old and I watch Passions every single day, its a great show and I finished reading Hidden Passions about 2 months ago. I think that this was a great book! Even though I knew most of the stuff that was is the book from watching the show, like Ethan not being a Crane and all, it still was a shock. I recommend this book to almost every one who likes to read, and loves this show! Even though some of you probably dont watch the show you will catch on, and who knows maybe you'll start to watch the show too!

    Great Book

Hidden Passions is a great book for any Passions fan. I loved reading it and understand a lot more about the show. My only complaint is that it should have gone more into depth on other characters than just the Cranes, Russels, and Bennetts.

    # 1 'Novel' in Harmony and The World

In my personal opinion this book is a definite 5 stars. It makes me wanna draw a warm bubble bath, make a Martimmy, relax and read. I am a huge fan of the soap opera and this book has given me all the juicy details of all of Harmony's past. It is full of suspense, action, love, lust and even a bit of what I call 'Timmy' comedy. What I think is absolutely terrific is that if you recently began watching Passions and are a bit lost, you can read this book; it will update you and you will understand everything and everyone as if you've been watching from the beginning.
