Overview

The inspiration of Ernest Holmes has reached hundreds of thousands of readers through his classic works, many of which are just now becoming available in paperback. Originally published in 1929 as The Bible in Light of Religious Science, this exegesis on the hidden lessons of some of Scripture's best-known verses has been largely unavailable-and even unknown-since the 1940s. Indeed, this edition comes as a brand-new work to the many readers of Ernest Holmes. It is fully reset and redesigned, published for the first time with an index, and includes a new preface to frame the book for the contemporary reader.

Editorial Reviews

Library Journal
In this reset and redesigned edition of a book originally published in 1929 as The Bible in the Light of Religious Science, readers are reintroduced to the United Church of Religious Science movement, whose basic philosophy is that one can find Truth and one's purpose in life through the exploration of the psychological, metaphysical, mental, spiritual, idealist, and practical powers of the mind. Holmes (1887-1960) is a renowned scholar and mystic who wrote one of the movement's first books, The Science of Mind, some of which appears here. He interprets the significance of certain biblical passages in relation to everyday life, and his explanations show how to pray and meditate, heal oneself spiritually, find self-confidence, and express love. We are reminded that there are no mysteries in the Bible, and that in reading the text clearly, we can find Life and the Truth. A basic lesson concludes, "We can find God only within ourselves and God can work for us only by working through us." Intended for those interested in popular religion and self-actualization, this book is recommended for larger public libraries. Published for the first time with an index (not seen) and including a new preface.-Leo Kriz, West Des Moines P.L. Copyright 2006 Reed Business Information.
