Editorial Reviews

Publishers Weekly
Odelia Grey resents her arrogant new boss, Erica Mayfield, sticking her with a weekend babysitting job in Jaffarian’s enormously entertaining seventh cozy featuring the plus-size Southern California paralegal (after 2011’s Twice as Dead). But drudgery turns to delight as Odelia and her wheelchair-bound hubby, Greg Stevens, fall head-over-heels for Erica’s three-year-old niece, Lily, whose mother, Connie Holt, dumped the girl on Erica, then disappeared. When Erica vanishes, Odelia ends up doing some snooping in Erica’s house, where she discovers Connie’s body lying in a pool of blood. That a fiery auto crash took out Lily’s dad suggests that the Holt family harbors a dangerous secret. Odelia must not only find a killer but also hold on to her job at her law firm, which is laying off people after merging with another firm. Despite the ho-hum title, this entry offers tight plotting, first-class humor, and vivid descriptions. Agent: Whitney Lee. (Sept.)

Cheesehead Squirrel for the win, or Odelia Meets a Cute Child and Solves More Murders

I've been a dedicated reader of the Odelia Grey series for a few years, so much so that picking up the latest mystery feels like revisiting old friends I haven't seen in a while. This book is my favorite so far, because it shows a lot of character and relationship development for Odelia and Greg when a young child enters their life. The office politics are ratcheted way up, as "corpse magnet" Odelia copes with not having her old boss Steele to, well, boss her around. Instead, she has the ultimate mean girl, who dumps her young niece with a horrified Odelia, but her heart is melted as fast as you can say "Cheesehead Squirrel" (the girl's nickname for Odelia). This is a fast-paced, exciting mystery that kept me guessing, as always, and tugged at my own heartstrings. Odelia is as gutsy, stubborn and outspoken as ever, but she also shows a new side of herself that reminds me why I am a fan of this series in the first place, because it's not just about murders, but about love and family and how far people will go in the name of them (and yes, sometimes that includes murder). An excellent read, and if you're new to the series, you can start with this one, though I'd recommend reading my way through the Odelia Grey series from the beginning.

    Loved it!

Odelia is left holding left holding the bag, er, baby in her 7th adventure. Lily is Odelia's new boss' niece and responsibility over the week-end. Odelia's search for Lily's mother and the truth reveal ugly secrets, and, much to Odelia's surprise, Lily found her way into Odelia's heart! Quick, fun and touching a read!

Hide and Snoop is everything I've come to expect from a Sue Ann

Hide and Snoop is everything I've come to expect from a Sue Ann Jaffarian story! FUN, engaging, suspenseful, even a tad tearful at times and especially IMPOSSIBLE TO RATION! It is definitely one of the best in the series! If you haven't been introduced to Odelia yet, you are missing out! If you have, this one will touch your heart, tickle your funny bone and even make you a tad breathless. This one deserves every one of the 5 stars I'm giving it! And I RARELY give a book 5 stars, but Sue Ann Jaffarian has EARNED them with this one! Odelia is a HOOT and a half! And I love her!
