The Marriage ...
But now these two are thrown together in a mock marriage designed to deceive the world. Maggie has no choice but to play along—or else risk losing everything she’s ever worked for, including the man she has no business loving.

RT Book Review
There is nothing like a good laugh combined with a captivating read to brighten the day and Margaret Brownley’s High Button Shoes is the perfect pick-me-up.

This book is sheer delight. This amusing, yet poignant tale evokes the atmosphere of the West, the hardships faced by single women, and the joys, pleasures and most of all, dangers of falling in love. Readers will be enchanted by Ms. Brownley’s imaginative love story and find themselves smiling with glee as Maggie and Dominick play out their masquerade.

Meet the Author

Thrills, mystery, suspense, romance; Margaret penned it all. Nothing wrong with that—except she happened to be writing for the church newsletter. After making the church picnic read like a Grisham novel, her former pastor took her aside and said, "Maybe God's calling you to write fiction."

So that’s what Margaret did. She now has more than twenty-five novels to her credit, is a New York Times bestselling author and past Romance Writers of America RITA finalist—not bad for someone who flunked 8th grade English. Just don’t ask her to diagram a sentence.

    I loved it!

Margaret Brownley has quickly become one of my favorite authors! The first book I read of hers was A Lady Like Sarah, which I enjoyed, but it wasn't what I expected. I then read A Suitor for Jenny, which I positively adored! I loved High Button Shoes just as much.

In the 3 books I've read of hers, Margaret Brownley always writes strong female characters who are suffering from some deep, secret pain. Oftentimes, there are characters who seem to think they don't deserve to be happy, which I think is something we can fall into in our own lives. While that wasn't as much a theme in this book, I think it lends a certain realistic vulnerability to her characters. In High Button Shoes, Maggie was a strong woman who had suffered the loss of her husband. She and her children were traveling by stage to a new home, where one of the passengers professed to be the notorious Kissing Bandit, and was attached to a ball and chain, on his way to jail. Through a series of unforeseen circumstances, Maggie and the bandit are thrown together and must work together to protect her reputation, and his life.

This was a very enjoyable read, fairly lighthearted, but with plenty of intrigue to keep me turning the pages as fast as I could. I definitely recommend this book, as well as the Rocky Creek series as well.

This book is the same as The Kissing Bandit. So purchase one or the other not both like I did! Oops
